11  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / My curtains make me sad. on: December 29, 2010 04:11:21 PM
When I moved into this house I made some curtains for the living room. The fabric was the end of the roll at the shop, it was a little shorter than I wanted, but I really really liked the fabric and figured it would just stretch.

Sooooo I have curtains that are *just* big enough but leave little gaps at the sides and in the middle and it's driving me insane. I really don't want to make entirely new curtains because the window is 2m square and it will be super expensive.  I can't get any more of the same fabric to extend them. Can anyone think of a way of redeeming them which will look ok? Someone recommended adding a strip of contrasting fabric to each side but I just can't imagine that looking good.
12  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / What are these little clippy things called? on: December 12, 2010 10:49:59 AM
I need lots of them for something, but I can't order any, because I don't know what they're called. Any thoughts?

(It's just the clip I'm after, not the spring)

Thankyou Smiley
13  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Gift for my friend - BIG challenge on: November 27, 2010 10:02:47 AM
I need to make something special for Christmas for my ex-housemate who I'm still good friends with. He's 29 and likes driving, caravans, canals, tinkering with cars, and his dog. He doesn't like eating or reading or music, and won't drink alcohol or any hot drinks.

Last year I made a calendar with pictures of his dog on it, which went down well, but obviously can't be repeated. (Not this soon anyway!)

He is awkward. I am stuck. Any ideas?
14  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Paper curling up - not happy on: September 07, 2010 01:25:52 PM
I feel so silly asking this, it must be really basic, but I've been doing paper crafts for years and not had this before.

I'm trying to make a scrapbook and when I stick things onto the page, it all curls up. I had to throw a whole sheet away earlier because it had literally rolled itself up into a tube.

How can I stop this? The paper is what came with the scrapbook, the things I'm sticking on are mostly photos, using a glue stick.

Bit disappointed as the scrapbook is lovely and i've been gathering things for it for over a year :-/
15  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Protecting pressed flowers. on: August 05, 2010 05:04:14 AM
I've been decorating notebooks and greetings cards with pressed flowers but even if they're well glued down they're still quite delicate.

Is there anything I could paint over them to protect them? I don't want to use stickyback plastic because it's too obviously visible - all shiny and reflective.

So basically, I want an invisible, rock hard varnish. Grin And the moon on a stick. any ideas? Grin

17  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / soldering iron on: January 14, 2005 02:53:53 AM
I don't know if this is the right forum but i cant find anywhere more appropriate.

I got  a new soldering iron today and when i use it it smokes loads and gathers soot on the end. Is this normal?! I've used them before and I don't remember them doing that. Its also got some kind of shiny bluish deposit on the end. Undecided
