1  UNITED STATES / West Virginia / WVU in the Wintertime? on: May 22, 2006 12:45:14 PM
(ooooh I hope this is allowed)

Hi!
I'm Gem from Maryland and I was accepted to WVU (as you may have read in the Morgantown Post). I wanted to start working on college clothes to take with me, you know, t-shirt surgeries and the like. It's been kind of my summer project- making things to get ready to go. However, I don't know what to make. See, I'll be there for the fall Semester and after everyone heard I got accepted SO MANY adults I know said it's like, arctic temps in fall and winter. I made a crack to someone saying how I wanted to go to Montreal for school after WVU and they said, "Why bother? It's the same temperature as Morgantown!" (Meaning it was as cold as canada there.) So I was wondering if anyone had any  suggestions for types of clothing that would be good for WVU weather.

If you can be of any help, Thank you so much (in advance).

2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Late Nights=(involves jeans, paint and a lot of pix) on: May 02, 2006 08:41:38 PM
Hi! I've made jean skirts for forever (who hasn't?) but they are a main staple in my wardrobe (I've got five). I got a little sick of people always stopping me and complimenting me because they'd ask if I sold them and I'd never have a store to send them to. Finally my fiance decided to help out and split an etsy store with me. I also feature jewelry and shirts and the like. Here are some of my recent creations. I'm so in love with the owl shirt. I hope you like them!

3  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / My take on Headphone jewelry on: April 18, 2006 05:28:43 PM
Hi! I'm new to the board. Usually I just hang around the clothing board, but I was checking it out here last week and found a few posts (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=70958.0) dealing with headphone jewelry. I adored it and remembered I had a few pairs of broken headphones (and a new Def Lepard T-shirt from Goodwill). So I clipped and brainstormed and came up with this. Pictured is 1 earring with both ear peices as it's charm, 1 earring with a part of a CD as it's charm, a necklace with the jack as a charm, and a Barbie boombox made into a necklace. I still have one pair they go over the head, not just in the ear. I kind of want to figure a way to make them into a crown or something. We'll see.

EDIT:  sorry for the REALLY small pic. It's of the Barbie Boombox necklace with the Jack necklace, but I guess I reduced it too much. ;_;

If you like these (or E.T.) please check out my etsy store. username: artandsewl
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / My "Wardrobe ReVamp" (lots of pics) on: March 12, 2006 08:32:47 AM
I found the Wardrobe Revamp thread a while ago and decided my closet needed to be fixed, too. Then some computer crap happened and I didn't get my computer back for two months. I figured it'd be a little late to join in now, so I'm just poting what I've done in my own post. Hope you enjoy- I certainly do!

-There should be my favorite pair of jeans that I've doctored up (because they ripped)
-A hoodie I patched and painted
-An angel T-shirt I deisgned and painted
-A grey velvet blazer I cropped and hemmed (and replaced the button)
-My favorite sweater (Gabes) and new jean skirt I made and drew on
-2 pictures of an old lady shirt I added sleeves to and David bowie!
-2 pictures of my Discordia skirt I made and designed. Fnord, for all who understand.
-a picture of my first gypsy skirt made of lip-print flannel.

Before I finish I've got to point out that lately Discordianism is my thing, especially because you're allowed to pick your own saint. Bowie is mine, if you can't tell. And the on going gag between me and friends is W.W.D.D.? - What would Discordia Do?

5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Craftster Virgin, Denim Denim and Denim! on: November 10, 2005 09:24:42 AM
Hi, I'm Gem, and I'm a new poster but not a new at sewing. I really wanted to share my stuff with you all, so for your veiwing pleasure: (praying to the Gods that I did this right and the pictures work!)

The above is a knee length skirt I made with a random denim ruffle (looks like a whole), patches, and painted stuff. The majority of my clothes are painted on. Also, A cropped shirt that (had I no jiggle belly) I would wear by itself, but made for the purpose of wearing under stuff. Yay plaid T-Shirts!

And now, my favorite skirt:

Yay for neon ribbon. And, I know this isn't clothing, but just because, here is a barbie guitar necklace, barbie boombox necklace and a clay confused robots necklace (I HEART Confused Robots).

6  CLOTHING / Sewing Pattern Reviews / Has anyone ever used this site for patterns? on: October 01, 2005 02:33:44 PM
Hi! First-time poster, here, just wondering:

See, I was looking around online for things other than Simplicity and McCalls (because I usually despise their patterns, though I do alter them and make them work) and I found this site:

http://www.jalie.com/catalog/casual.html#964

I've never heard of them, but I do like their patterns, and I was wondering if anyone else here had used this site or their patterns. I'm edgy about buying anything off the Internet, so I didn't want to randomly buy something without a reccomendation (what if the pattern sucks? is it a scam? that kind of thing).

If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated. You're all so friendly here, I knew to ask this community.
