1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: I'm a beginner, so what should I get? on: May 15, 2009 07:29:29 PM
So my birthday was a week ago, I didn't get a sewing machine but I did get TONS of yarn for crocheting=] I've been crocheting for a couple years now. I love it. I also got some zebra striped fabric. It was pretty cool except its really small but I can work up to it slowly. I'm hopefully getting a sewing machine for xmas. My gma keeps talking about it. I hope I get one, me and my gpa went to Walmart looking at them.. ugh walmart. I love Joanns. But I can't go there. So i guess I'll get a machine for under $100 but I gotta start somewhere. If you guys have any idea what I could use the zebra striped fabric on, give advice=]

I'm am soo confused about the legs, i have no idea what you are talking about. I keep repeating it in my head but my brain won't cooperate lol. Do I skip stitches or do I keep sc? I have no idea what your talking about. I even read what you've said to someone else, but I still don't get it. Can you put it more into detail of how it should look like and what to do after the nine sc?

Thanks btw.

I never realized how much people can offer. You guys are amazing. Thank you soo much! I've been looking everywhere, but for some reason I haven't been babysitting to earn any money. I'm hoping to start making bags and purses for sell to get money. But to get money you have to spend it. Which in my case I have neither lol. I will still be on the search and if anyone still has any suggestions on where to get fabrics also and just in general other materials I should get to start off my little business. You guys are a great help!!

I totally agree!! My grandma just thinks I wanna go to Hot topic and get $100 worth of clothing which is a pair of pants and a shirt. She said its my choice between clothes or sewing machine.. which is really hard because I don't get to go shopping that often, and I don't really have a space for my sewing machine anyways right now.. I was thinking about buying one when I get a job in August. I believe I should get whatever i wanna get for my bday, lol. Thank you guys so much for the encouragement and the help=]

Thank you. Everyone. I am on a low budget and my birthday is coming up. I guess I could ask then too. But my grandma says that a sewing machine isn't a birthday gift for turning 16 lol. I guess I'm not a normal teen. No one in my family or anyone I know sews with a sewing machine.. I've seen what you could really do and I wanna do it myself. Thats why I was asking... I don't want to go to Walmart and buy one, even though it might work, I'd rather go to a craft store to buy it.

Thanks.

I've seen so many options, and they all confuse me. I see all these buttons and usually I go with the bigger the better kinda thing, but I'd rather go into farther detail with getting a sewing machine. I've been knitting and crocheting for a couple years and now I wanna try to sew my own clothes and bags and hopefully start up something. So any advice for me? I'm only 15 so I have a few years. I would love advice on what I should do to start this.

Thanks,
Carissa
