31  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Cookie Monster Scarf -- first time crocheting! on: June 19, 2009 12:12:48 PM
I decided to post the Cookie Monster scarf that I sent to Windoverireland for the Jim Henson swap. I taught myself to crochet -- well, at least to crochet circles -- for the swap, since I had the image of this in my mind and really wanted to make it.

The yarn is all cotton.

The eyes -- the pupils are buttons.

A close-up cookie. NOM NOM chocolate chip!

Now I want to learn more crochet techniques and try my hands at a pattern!

33  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Dinosaur Swap on: June 19, 2009 08:55:06 AM
I've got some smalls and a medium thing done. I spent ALL DAY crafting. This is so much easier than my last swap, when I was doing my crafts... and finals at the same time. XD

Oh man, I love the stuff I've made and want to keep it. :> I hope it suits my partner's style alright!

My staying up all night paid off, and I have finished something, and started another! This one requires I learn some new things, so it'll take a bit longer. :> I'm having so much fun.

Hooray for summer vacation! I stayed up all night last night (went to bed at five AM) crafting for this swap. XD

40  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Re: Sending and receiving food in swaps on: June 16, 2009 02:47:05 AM
I don't think I'd be comfortable receiving food (homemade or otherwise), mostly because I also am vegan and most non-vegan folks don't know what to check for in ingredients lists -- stuff like cochineal, gelatin, bone-char processed sugar (you can't tell without contacting the manufacturer), casein, etc. Also, even if folks are very clean, there are still allergen risks for things like gluten, peanuts and so on, that can be very serious.

I've also noticed most food that does get traded is junk food, which, although delicious, I really don't need any more of. XD

I think it's just best to ask before sending edibles.
