1  band t-shirt into a dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Maraleopard on: June 01, 2012 03:16:15 PM
not quite as exciting as my scrap dress, but i am still very proud of how this turned out.

somehow this took me over a day and a half to make. it was the back. i had no idea what i wanted to do with it. & then i was inspired by the wonderful vivifromage.

besides the usual refashion, i also dipped this in a strong tea solution for about an hour. (the beige fabric was actually a very bright white) unfortunately that marvelous antique look isn't as prominent in the pictures. that same antique look is half the reason i love it so very much.

thanks for looking!

2  pink, black & white scrap dress! in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Maraleopard on: April 25, 2012 01:04:39 PM
(does this count as general clothing? or would it fit better in reconstructed?)

just finished today. i love it SO MUCH. i worked on it for about a week & a half, almost every day. this is an exceptionally long time for me. & i loved every minute of it.

i'm wondering about the front skirt though, now that i'm looking at these pictures. anyway.

my favourite view.

i couldn't get enough of photographing it, hehe. there are all manner of things in here: clothes worn once, half of a failed corset, all kinds of scraps, an atari teenage riot shirt, a never worn bra, zippers, a bandanna from my childhood, a much cherished broken bracelet, a petticoat that wasn't full enough, a garter belt...

some detail shots:

i molded this on my dressform, instead of working from out of a pre-drawn pattern. it was so much fun to do! sewing all of it together a little less.

even more pictures & information & suggestions on making your own on my blog (:

i'd love to hear your opinion on it!
either way, thanks for looking! have a fabulous day/night!

05/10: oh wow, i'm featured on the front page. this is a first! thank you so much <3

3  striped long-sleeved trapeze shirt! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Maraleopard on: April 14, 2012 11:34:13 AM
first time i ever made something like this. i LOVE how it turned out.

(don't mind my unenthusiastic expression)

i think this might just be the most comfortable thing i've worn in my life. i'll probably make more of these. without flattening appliqus.

if you're interested in how i made it, you can find all that information on my blog.

thanks for looking!

4  old laughing vampire dress into a much cuter one in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Maraleopard on: April 05, 2012 01:51:37 PM
many, many years ago, when i was in a certain phase, i bought this lovely yet wildly unpractical dress. in all those years i've worn it exactly once. as a costume.

for some reason i was still very attached to it when i came across it again last week. but i knew i'd never wear it again, so i transformed it into something i would Smiley

it took so long to decide what to do with this! in the end it was a very simple alteration that made a very big difference. not a lot more was needed with that bustline & fabric. i do love that fabric, it's such nice (& impossible to capture) deep-red velour. i also love this dress a lot more as babydoll. i can wear this on a daily basis! & cycle in it! it's a lot lighter now too, which makes it extra comfy.

thanks for looking! have a fabulous day/night!

5  dark elegant gothic lolita-esque dress, with tutorial link in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Maraleopard on: April 05, 2012 11:57:39 AM
hey all! jesus, it's been long since i posted here. then again, it's also been very long since i've sewn.

more to the point, i made this dress over the past few days:

I LOVE IT SO MUCH. the super pretty AND comfortable fabrics, the darkness of it, flattering silhouette, POCKETS & practically flawless construction... i think it's some of my finest work. of course, the sensuality of the fabrics could heavily be clouding my judgment :p

the taffeta with that flowery trim was an excellent find in the fabric store last week. i pretty much created the whole dress around that trim. & it turned out fabulously.

also, i decided to try out this tutorial making thing, which can be viewed on my blog. it's very lengthy. it includes in-seam pockets, a blind zipper, flutter sleeves & yoke, among other things. i hope you find it useful!

thank you so much for looking! have a fantastic day/night!

6  low waisted cherry dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Maraleopard on: February 25, 2011 01:45:35 PM
i barely have time/energy to sew anymore. darn school. but i was able to make this today Smiley
i've been wanting to make a dress out of this fabric for so long. & i wanted to try a low-waisted non-stretch fitted dress for once.

i think it turned out well Smiley

for those interested, there's more background info + in progress shots on my blog.

7  old jeans into a vest & some t-shirt reconstructions(lots of pics!& a swearword) in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Maraleopard on: November 08, 2010 03:53:46 AM
all of these made a while back, but i didn't get around to posting before.

so, i really, really wanted a sleeveless jean jacket/vest, while i had vowed not to buy anything new for at least a couple of months. & then i remembered that i had a pair of jeans in my closet that was much too big to wear anymore. & i made this:

i love it so much!

before:

i don't usually use store-bought patterns, but i did for this vest. it's one from burda.

& the t-shirt reconstructions:

made from a cancer bats t-shirt. it's one of my all-time favourite dresses. it's SO comfortable & flattering & colourful. & you know, has one of my very favourite bands on it. i only forgot to add pockets.
i wore this the last time i saw the cancer bats. liam (the singer) said it was awesome Smiley

from an evelyn evelyn shirt. it's kind of inspired by wearydrearies. i love wearydrearies. contour bust part i learned to do at whatthecraft.com. flower thingie was a hairclip.

thanks for looking! i'd love to hear what you think of them Smiley have a great day/night.

8  some recent things (lots of pics!) in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Maraleopard on: November 08, 2010 03:18:19 AM
it feels SO good to be sewing again. & back on craftster Smiley

i love this dress so very much. the cut! the colours! the PEACOCKS!
more pictures on my blog.

i had to make some things with stripes. with materials i already had, that tank & shrug were what i came up with. i really like how they turned out. especially the shrug. there is just something about vertical stripes that i love so much more than horizontal ones.
more pictures also on my blog.

these are a bit older, but i never got around to posting them:

for the longest time i wanted a simple blinding pink 50's day dress, with pockets. now i do Smiley

this pinafore was featured in creepy queen magazine a while back. it was very exciting Cheesy
& hell to make with all the ruffles.

thanks for looking! let me know what you think! have a great day/night!

9  tnbc, muse & the used t-shirt reconstructions in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Maraleopard on: February 27, 2010 11:36:13 AM

this t-shirt was pretty annoying. the size of it (xl, which i couldn't even cut a small top out of because it was a girl shirt) & the graphic on it wouldn't work for my first few ideas, so i had to improvise. in the end i gave it contrasting side-panels with corset lacing, a striped, sweetheart band at the top (which i sewed myself, because i can't find striped knit fabric where i live) & a layered skirt.

this top was mostly an excuse to use that striped fabric i got off ebay a while ago, but didn't get much chance to use :p i think it goes really well with the lyrics on the shirt. i gave it a yoke, puffed sleeves, peter pan collar & a large pouch with smallish openings. i topped it off with a bow at the collar. which i often do :p i love bows.

even though it didn't turn out exactly like i wanted it to, i still love this top so very much. i wanted a super ruffly clown collar, but i miscalculated how long it had to be (next time i know i'll have to use at least four times the length of the neck opening!) & had already serged it when i saw how ruffly it was not. disappointing, but it still looks okay, i guess. what do you think? it is a bit rufflier than it appears in the pictures though.
i also gave it flutter sleeves with lace, military tabs (with sailor buttons!) & a striped band at the bottom. after making it ten sizes smaller :p & another polka dot bow to top it off!

thanks for looking! i'd love to hear what you think about them :]

10  dresses, skirts & a cardigan (lots of pics!) in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Maraleopard on: February 15, 2010 11:18:45 AM
long time no post, i know. but i haven't been sewing nearly as much as i'd like these past few months. here are some of the things i've made:

this is my favourite :] i haven't worn it yet though. i actually barely have anything that goes with it. but its time will come.

this is a very simple dress, but i love it anyway. then again, i love anything with polka dots, lace, bows & hearts :p especially if its pink, black & white.

i'm still not sure if i like this dress or not. it has orange in it. it's very halloweeny though. what do you think?

i love the fabric of this one so much! it has one of the prettiest floral patterns i've ever seen. & it has such a lovely shade of purple.

more purple & polka dots. yes, that's purple. a really dark purple, but no matter what i did my camera refused to capture anything close to it.

even more polka dots. & flowers! & bows! & pockets in the side-seams! how awesome is that?

this skirt turned out a little weird in the pictures. full circle skirts always look so flat on dressforms. it looks way better in real life, on a person. it turned out a bit simpler than i had in mind, but i didn't want to distract too much from the awesomeness of that fabric. the rainbowy colours also look much better in real life.

that's it for now! let me know what you think! i'm trying to diversify my clothing more & i'd really like people's opinions on it.
