1  UNITED STATES / Minnesota / Re: Minnesota Craftsters Monthly on: October 08, 2006 11:28:05 AM
I've been a deliquent attendee of Craftster lately, but I've been trying to figure out how to find other crafty people for fun and adventure.  I'd be up for a card-making meet-up, and could bring ephemera, some papers, etc.  I'm actually trying to lessen my paper-stuff stash.

2  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Paper & Ephemera SWAP (CLOSED: Send by JULY 1!) on: July 27, 2005 09:18:20 PM
I'd love to organize a second round of this swap just as soon as I get the first round finished up (leaving feedback, sending out envelopes for those who got flaked on, etc.).  How about sign-up ending August 15th-ish with a mailing date of Sept. 1?

Also, any changes people would like to see in the second round?  Feel free to post them here or PM me.  I'll post here and contact those who've indicated interest/participated in the first one as soon as sign up starts.

Yay for paper!
3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Paper & Ephemera Swap Gallery (warning: may induce envy) on: July 27, 2005 09:12:51 PM
Hi all,

I'm sorry to hear that some of you haven't received your packages; it appears that we have two flakes, with five unsent envelopes.  I've started packing up make-up envelopes to send out to Kendaljay, M8888888, Pearliepie (all supposed to receive from Jacqui) and Amyshrugged and Margoiseau (both supposed to receive from Kellyfitz84).  I'll get those sent as soon as possible; I actually am heading out of town this weekend (to New Orleans -- I'll pick up cool stuff to add if I come across any) but will send them out on Monday or Tuesday.

If there's anybody else who's been flaked on, please let me know.  I've been keeping track of who's sent and who's received, but I've been having sporadic trouble with Craftster lately (sometimes it tells me it doesn't like my cookie settings) and may have missed things.

Again, my apologies about the flakes.  I probably should've given up on them sooner, but this is the first swap I've organized and the eternal optimist in me kept giving them just one more day.  And Kendayjay, M8888888, Pearliepie, Amyshrugged, and Margoiseau -- if any of you have particular preferences/dislikes in papers, let me know!  I'll try to keep it in mind when I make up the new envelopes.

Thanks all you paper people!
Julia

Raeamazon --
I got your package and it's GREAT!  I'm trying to negotiate for a digital camera so I can take pictures and let others bask in the glory -- if I can't do it by the end of the day, I'll just describe it as best I can.  Everyone'll just have to imagine, if that's the case...

I've been a remiss swap organizer not even posting pics of what I've received until now!  Mea culpa!  I am so glad I organized this swap, though, because I got absolutely lovely things from all three of my partners (Selenium, Maps, and RaeAmazon).  Unfortunately, I share a digi cam with my brother and he stole it back from me the day before my papers from RaeAmazon arrived, so I don't have those pics to share yet.  But there will be photographic proof of its wonderfulosity.

For starters, and in order of arrival, paper and ephemera from SELENIUM!

I swear she must be stalking me, in the nicest way possible -- so many things that are so me!  The stickers, which don't show up all that well in the photos, include carp/goldfishy species of the sparkly variety, the cute japan/china/korea cartoony characters type, food! (mmmm), dried flowers, and sticky gold numbers (I was just looking at these in Menards the other day -- see?  she must have sent her agents to follow me!).  And the papers range from labels and vintage postcardy types (once again, feeling the love -- esp. the stork one w/ the disgruntled new father in the window), to beautiful printed japanese papers (the kind I ogle over in stores) and fruits and veggies in positions  as you've never seen them before (that is a celery Forum there) and origami paper.  And some of her own B&W photos -- my favorite is the row of statues that you can see under the pic of the NY nighttime skyline (that one's so going on a card for my favorite soon-moving-to-NY photographer cousin, if that's okay?).  And the cutest ?candy? wrappers with fish on them, in all different colors!  Plus the duck journal, with bizarre English on the front; I love love love this kind of stuff!  Mistranslations, come my way!  And all this (plus more!) was neatly packaged in a striped folder (did I mention I am going through a stripes phase) in a letter themed envelope.  Wowzers!

If you think Selenium had her secret agents taking notes as I window-shopped, Maps must've had hers peering into my house.  The first paper I saw when I opened the envelope was the beeeyoooteeeful aqua blue one:

It's got a gorgeous sheen to it, and just so happens to be in my new favorite color (well, one of them -- it's not cheating as long as I still love and am committed to orange, green, and pink, right?).  I don't even know if anything'll be done with that one -- it's up on my vanity with the four bowls and the lamp in the same color that've popped into my life in the last few months.  And as you can see, Maps package had some lovely coordination going on with that blue on two different kinds of paper, the butterfly botanical-type pages, the pale yellow papers, the flower stickers, and the page that must be from the Very Hungry Caterpillar.  Then there was the dash of gold tones, like the picture of The Kiss, which I was very tempted to use on a wedding card for some friends before deciding I couldn't part with it quite yet (next wedding, perhaps), and the checkered Chinese paper...And stamps!  And, perhaps my very favorite (well, one of them, along with the blue and the butterflies and the Caterpillar) is a little diagram-type picture.  Well, needless to say, all just wonderful!

So, really, I don't think either of these wonderful swappers are hiding out in Mpls following me around and trying to figure out what I like, but in case they are, they should just come out of hiding and we can be bestest friends and go paper shopping and make beautiful things.

I'll try to get photos of RaeAmazon's stuff in the next few days.  Meanwhile, I'm loving looking at everything that everyone else has been sending and receiving -- it seems like the swap is going well (at least, as far as I can tell) but if you have any problems or feedback whatsoever, please let me know, either on the thread or by PMing me.  I'm hoping to start getting positive feedback left in the next 24 hours, plus additional reminders sent out.

Much paper love!
Julia

Paper and ephemera packages will be arriving soon!  Please post here when you receive to let us see/read about all the lovelies you now have.  Also, if people who are interested in doing this (again) should PM me!

I'd love to participate, but unfortunately lack the necessary funds.  That's the way of the world, I suppose...
8  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Where'd you get your cool hipster eyeglasses?!? on: June 29, 2005 10:44:16 AM
I got my glasses at spectacle shoppe, a local store with two, maybe three buildings.  They're probably online, though.  They have an absolutely awesome selection of vintage frames -- so incredibly fun!  Sadly, the first pair of vintage frames I got fit perfectly and had rhinestones and were beautiful, but the bridge started cracking internally within the first few days so I had to return them.  Couldn't find another pair of vintage frames that fit (I have really bad vision, so good fit is v. v. important, and my head is small and my bridge is high and my lashes are long, or something like that), but I ended up getting frameless glasses with red plastic that looks like glass when it's dropped in water.  And they even did a color coating on the edge of the lenses, so I got my lime green fix too!

Yeah, so I recommend spectacle shoppe, esp. if you're a picky customer like me.

Hello Paper People!
Sorry Im not giving this information to you within the 24 hour self-imposed deadline.  Its deadly Minnesota-hot here and I am a delicate flower, wilting.  Besides, my computer was also heavily protesting being used in such heat

Below are your pairs, people to send to and receive from.  I tried to make sure that all requests were honored to ship inside ones own country.  If youre shipping outside, you should also be receiving from outside.  There is one little group of three since there were an odd number of envelopes.
