1  Moss wreath in Winter Holidays by ourlittlebox on: December 05, 2009 01:36:35 AM
I made a simple moss-covered wreath as part of my Christmas decorations this year.

I used a styrofoam base I got at a local craft store,

some fresh moss,

and a glue gun.

I removed as much dirt from the moss as possible and then just glued it onto the styrofoam base in small patches until the whole thing was covered.

Finally I pinned some ribbon and a felt deer to it and hung it on a door.

2  Fun chair redo in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by ourlittlebox on: December 03, 2009 12:06:44 PM
We recently redid an old chair that didn't go with the rest of our furniture.

Here it is before (the seating cushion has already been removed in this pic):

We started by thoroughly sanding the chair and painting it in a light blue. We then covered the old seating cushion with some fabric from IKEA. We used a staple gun to do this

Here is our chair now - much brighter and really fun:

3  Christmas village advent calendar (pic heavy!) in Winter Holidays by ourlittlebox on: November 25, 2009 11:23:40 AM
My boyfriend and I always exchange advent calendars. This year I made him a whole Christmas village out of paper and hid little presents under the houses and tree.

4  Paper bats in Halloween Decor and Parties by ourlittlebox on: October 26, 2009 07:36:04 AM
We finished decorating one corner of our flat for Halloween today:

We wanted something cheap and fairly easy, and we came up with paper bats. We used a free template from Martha Stewart, which we cut out and traced on black paper. Since we're cheap we tried to get as many bats out of one sheet of black paper as possible:

We used regular tape to stick the bats to our wall:

Here is the finished product inluding a paper crow:

5  DIY branch coat rack in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by ourlittlebox on: October 25, 2009 02:56:33 PM
The boy and I made a coat rack for our hallway out of an old branch.

We had gotten a few branches from an old tree that was cut down and immediately we thought of a picture we had seen somewhere on the internets that showed just such a coat rack. The boy got to work with his Swiss army knife and stripped the branches off their bark. Here you can see the mess he made:

We spray painted the resulting naked branches in white. Next we placed two white chains on either end of the branch. It was important to wrap the chains around the branch at least twice to keep them secure in their place.

To fasten the construction onto the ceiling, we installed two simple white hooks. Finally, we hung the chains on the hooks in the desired heigt. Voila!

For more info you can also read about this project on my blog: http://www.ourlittlebox.com/2009/03/branch-coat-rack.

6  Crazy Viking Pumpkin in Halloween Decor and Parties by ourlittlebox on: October 25, 2009 01:52:42 PM
I'm from a country where Halloween traditionally isn't celebrated, although some households have started carving pumpkins in the last few years. My boyfriend discovered pumpkin carving last year and really enjoys it.

Here's what he created this year:

And this is the mess that I had to clean up after he was done:

Boys, sigh.
