2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / princess leia [pic obese!] on: November 03, 2010 10:17:02 AM
a few years ago when i was a ripe young age of 19, i decided to make a leia costume. in the few years between then & now, i have indulged in a tad too much champagne & cupcakes. needless to say, since a crash diet was clearly not a viable solution, i had to completely remake my princess leia costume to cover certain areas where all that champagne decided to go.
3 weeks later, i have something that looks better then an $80 costume i found in NYC.
now that made me proud!

B T Dubbs, i was hot glued AND chained into this baby!

(front panel)

(back panel)
for the skirt, i used puffy paint ontop of felt to make the metal pattern on her outfit, then painted over it with different shades of gold. also, i found 2 types of upholstery trim to use as decoration. the bigger of the 2, i used as straps & the smaller i put onto my bracelet, as well as the front & back parts of my skirt. unforch, the ONLY purple fabric they had at my local fabric store was lace...everything else either had candy corns on it, or was $17 per yard.

i make the top out of a bra that i painted the metallic pattern on. i cut around the cups & secured the upholstery trim to the spots where the elastic had originally held the bra up.

my bracelet, armband & neck chain i made the same way i made the skirt: with felt, puffy paint & lots of different gold paint. i also had  some of that upholstery trim leftover so i added some of that.

please excuse my good friend, Mr. Chaplin! its my only detail pic of my top & neck pieces.
when i was 19, i had long enough hair to make the bun & the braid come down, but since i cut it all off, i had to make do with what i had. originally, i had glued my gold winged hair pieces to barrettes but because i have short hair now, i took them off & glued them to a headband.

i painted a squirt gun to look like the one leia used...(sidenote: i was bartending on halloween & filled my gun with tequila!)

always getting in the way, Mr. Chaplin...always in the way...

C&C welcome!
thanks for looking!!
3  COOKING / Dessert / healthy cookies! help with sugar substitutions? on: September 20, 2010 09:35:52 AM
i would like to bake cookies that are guilt-free, but im a tad iffy on a few things...

-i know you can reduce the amount of oil in a recipe by adding unsweetened applesauce, but by how much?

im iffy on trying artificial sweeteners, because its something ARTIFICIAL that i would be putting into my system. i would really like to try adding agave instead of using sugar.

-does anyone kows how much agave to use in place of 1 cup of sugar?

-ive thought about honey, splenda & truvia, but im not sure about them. honey, would just cost ALOT. splenda....well, lets just say ive read enough about splenda to where i wouldnt dare even pick up a package, let alone EVER eating it. & truvia, i know nothing about! if anyone knows anything about it, please let me know.

9  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / greek nymph?? on: October 06, 2009 09:42:38 AM
no costume idea was jumping out at me until i was walking out of the local salvation army. i found a gold rope. i then ran to the back where the linens were & found a big white lace tablecloth. i grabbed 2 white t's for a dollar each & when i got home, found some gladiator sandals.
my boyfriend came over later & immediately googled different greek gods. his favorite was the god of alcohol but he confused him with Pan. so now we're going with furry legs, a flute & devil horns painted brown.
.....but my costume is still up in the air.

HOW SHOULD I MAKE MY 2 T SHIRTS INTO A TOGA DRESS?
plz help!
10  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / A night of Amelie, champagne & roomie love on: September 28, 2009 02:43:43 PM
my roomie & i have Amelie night, where we watch the french film, Ameliehttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt0211915/. we usually have champagne & a delicious french dessert, which its either healthy, or we convince ourselves that its healthy.

we've alreadymade a honey-ginger yogurt tart along with dates that we halved, then topped the dates with sliced almonds after we stuffed them with brie.
...not incredibly healthy, unless you consider the calcium in the brie.

needless to say, we would prefer to conjour up a little healthiness this time around.

since creeps, creme brulee, rice pudding & chocolate ganache aren't healthy in any sense of the word...might there be any other suggestions?
