1  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 40 ENTRIES / B/W drawstring backpack - Cat tribute on: July 03, 2009 06:08:07 PM
Just over a month ago, on my granddaughter's second birthday, my daughter's cat Nova passed away.  He had been my granddaughter's constant companion from her birth, and was generally a sweet boy.  When I heard the terms of this challenge, I knew immediately that I wanted to use my favorite photo and do a bag for my daughter (littlebiskit) as a memorial.

This is acrylic on a pre-made drawstring bag.  It was done by changing the photo to black and white on the computer, and printing it out.  I then cut out the appropriate portions, and used rubber cement to tack the pieces onto the bag.  I then traced the pieces, removed the paper, and used white acrylic to paint the images.  I had tried freehanding the image, but had problems with the spacing, so I think this method worked quite well.

Hope you enjoy, don't forget to vote!

The tagline of "Shhh...    ...Secrets" is just because we've always said the photo looked like Nova was imparting some sort of feline secrets to his best buddy.

And here is the original photo for comparison.

2  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 38 ENTRIES / Steampunk Fabrege Egg (My first challenge entry) on: May 05, 2009 06:56:48 AM
As soon as I heard the challenge I had an idea of what I wanted to make.  Fortunately the women in our family were having a crafting retreat weekend which gave me plenty of time to work on my entry.

I really like the whole steampunk aesthetic, which is the look I was going for with this egg.

The egg is a large easter egg, covered in black polymer clay and decorated with various watch parts and copper wire.  It is hinged and lined with red satin (sorry, no pictures of that part!).

C&C welcome, and don't forget to vote!
3  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / What are you and what are you doing in my craft room? on: April 19, 2009 08:20:18 PM
Seriously. I bought these at the half price day at the cancer society garage sale several years ago just because they intrigued me but I have no idea what they might have been, or might become. Any help out here?

4  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Plain to over-the top on: April 15, 2009 04:43:17 PM
I received a small bedside lamp as a gift and while I needed the lamp, as it came out of the box, it didn't fit in with my decor at all( which has been accused of being "Victorian Bordello"). It was plain, simple and stark white.  So I revamped it...what do you think?

5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Scrap-wood Bunnies! on: April 03, 2009 05:56:41 AM
A while back I made these for my mother who collected bunnies.  They are approximately 2 1/4"x 1 1/4", and carved mostly using sand paper and a simple file.  (And a lot of patience!)  My daughter (littlebiskit) loves them and keeps trying to steal them every year when we help my mother put out her bunnies for spring/Easter.

They're stained, and the eyes are simple dots of dimensional fabric paint.  They were done with no pattern, just freehanded according to what was inside the block of wood.   Cheesy

What do you think?
