22  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: mini cardboard chest of drawers on: January 07, 2005 04:12:36 PM
ravenlock, the skull is my art teacher's that i have to make drawings of for class (i'm in figure drawing) i wish i could say it's mine!

and as for the knobs, they are folded pieces of cardboard affixed with hot glue. kind of messy and i may have to re-apply them at some point, but for now it works.

i don't know if i could make a tutorial or anything like that since the design is so specific to the boxes and i just kind of made it up as i went. sry  Undecided

this is what i ended up making with the little cardboard boxes i posted here http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=21575.msg175527#msg175527:  a little chest of drawers that fits on top of my desk!

it is 8 inches high with seven little drawers in it, perfect for storing little things like buttons, coins, makeup items and other miscelaneous tiny junk that would otherwise be lost:

it's just bare cardboard right now (i believe the boxes originally stored oil pastels) but i may decorate it later. here it is being useful on my desk Smiley

these boxes were free outside of a local art store. there were a lot more but i only had so much room in my bag, so i grabbed seven of them:

they are about 3.5"x4.5"x1" and open as shown:

i got them because i figured i could do something neat with them... exactly what, i am not sure  Tongue good thing this board is here, so all you crafty people can help me brainstorm!

thanks

28  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: jordy-style messenger bag on: December 30, 2004 09:09:17 PM
That looks great! Is that canvas you used for the outside? And did you do anything extra to reinforce the strap? I want to make myself a bag for school, but I'm worried about the strap being too flimsy.

the outer fabric is suiting fabric, i believe, because it is fairly sturdy. the strap is just doubled over and topstiched, and that made it fairly sturdy!

i made this messenger bag with a jordy-style bottom to carry my school stuff. the lining is pink with tiny polka dots and i hot-glued some buttons on the outside. velcro flap closure and one small pocket inside.
