1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Harry Potter Sorting Help on: July 29, 2012 02:57:44 PM
My sister, sister-in-law, BFF and I are collaborating in throwing me a Harry Potter baby shower in October.  We've got lots of great ideas thus far (ex: everyone who brings a package of diapers will be entered into the Goblet of Fire to win a prize!).  My first brain block has been, how do we sort guests into their houses?

I thought about using one of those paper fortune tellers (while the guest is wearing a sorting hat of course), but that would make the sorting pretty random.

The only thing I can come up with is a quiz for each guest to fill out.  Then the prefects can review the quiz and sort them.  Either, "well, you'e chosen mostly C's, so you're a Slytherin!" or "your total score was 15, so you're a Hufflepuff!"

I don't want it to be random, but I also don't want "Which animal do you like the best? Lion, Badger, Eagle or Snake?" They pick "eagle", and ta-da, they're a Ravenclaw.  ::yawn::

Thanks for the help!
2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Bowties are Cool on: October 31, 2011 11:20:53 PM
Not very original, but fun for us at least! Less talky, more looky.

DH, the Doctor. He wears a fez now.  Fezes are cool.\

I made the bowtie, the fez and the Sonic Screwdriver seen here:

Me, Le Tardis:

Edit: I forgot to include my fingernails! Black space with "WHO" accent nail.
Here's the topic in bath and beauty: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=393434.0

I painted a thrifted blue dress and made the jewelry and sparkly shoes seen here:

And here:  the necklace is shrinky dinks of a Cyberman, DW logo, a dalek, the tardis, stone angel, astronaut helmet, and Face of Boe... Earrings have the Union flag.

Amy Pond, my little old lady.  Looks just like her, doesn't she?

And our new puppy as Rory, the Last Centrion.  "I'm here to kick ass or kiss my wife... and I don't see my wife"

And a few of the Doctor and his time machine:

Thanx for looking and VOTE FOR ME!!
3  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / Nightmare Before Christmas Sally Nail Art on: October 28, 2011 01:19:31 PM
My friend mandymo13 is dressing up as Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas so I painted her nails to match the patches of Sally's dress!

Here's a pic of the costume she's wearing so you can see where the designs come from:

Thanx!

5  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / LOVE wall painting on: September 15, 2011 08:49:15 AM
I stumbledupon a picture of some urban art of shadow hands spelling out the word LOVE.  I wish I could remember where I saw it so I could give them credit for the inspiration.  Here's what I cam up with:

Everyone gives me grief because they're all ASL letters, except the E.  Even though I explain that it's not meant to pay homage to ASL (which is probably my 2nd favorite language), but more to be shadow letters, and that ASL letter E would look silly!

See?

Anywho, the L is my husband, the O and V are his sister, and my hand is the E.  They (DH and sister) have a ton of DVD's.  So we bought 4 IKEA DVD racks and framed out the word.  I am strictly organized (lol) so I insisted upon some order to the movies.  You can't really tell, but they are in ROYGBIV order.  The problem is, most DVD cases are black.  Thanks for looking!

6  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Discussion and Questions / Tree Marker Ideas on: September 13, 2011 08:45:04 AM
I think this is the right area for this question.

Anywho, my Dad passed away last November, so in remembrance I planted a weeping cherry tree (cherry's were his favorite) in my back yard.  I have the stones to make a ring for it and some lovely bulbs that should bloom next year.  I've been trying to think of a lovely way to make a marker dedicating it to him.  I've found large engravible (sp?) stones for sale, an it's not so much that their expensive (although they are!) but more that they're not unique.  I supposed I could pour my own... Has anyone got any other ideas?  Thanx!

So this was my inspiration:
I literally stumbled upon it (with stumbleupon.com), it was made by Katie Daisy.

We bought a house this summer and the bathroom had to be completely re-done.  We took everything down to the studs and started from scratch.  Here's the results:

We installed new sink, toilet, and cabinets. The tub used to be gray, so I painted it white. Here are a few of the naturey aspects of the decor:

And the biggest handmade project: The shower curtain!!

I bought a white shower curtain and puff paints.  It took me about 4 days total.  I initially just did the quote itself, but I got the scale wrong, so I have to improvise and add more pretties around the edge.  Then DH noticed smudges around the outside, so I doodled on the outside of the quote, and added the rainbows at the top.   Also, I sneaked some Harry Potter paraphernalia.  Here are some closeups:

Only other thing I want to do is that awesome felted rock mat!!

C&C welcome!!

9  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 65 ENTRIES / Chemical Name on: August 02, 2011 04:38:00 PM
I just finished 2 chemistry classes (last winter and spring quarters) and was inspired by the periodic table of elements.  So, I painted sme thrifted picture frames, found some atom-like stickers and printed my name using Lananthium, Carbon and Yttrium to spell LaCY Smiley

10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Honey Badger Don't Care on: July 12, 2011 09:57:17 PM
So my sister-in-law showed me this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4r7wHMg5Yjg

Then, THE SAME DAY!! I stumbled upon a t-shirt on teefury.com... Must... Replicate...

So this is what I came up with:

Printed on dark t-shirt transfer paper, then I doodled around it with some fabric paints. Here's a close-up:
