9  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / *Knitting, crocheting, sewing For charity!* updated 11/6/04 on: July 24, 2004 04:31:21 PM
Hey Everyone!
I am organizing a scarf, hat and mitten, drive!
 Here is the deal:

you can make any kind of scarves, hats, mittens,  you want as long as they are warm
and they are made with love!
You can Knit, sew however you wish you can make them!
I would ask that they be sent unwrapped and that you enclose a note (card-like)
You can ship them anytime you wish, but i would ask that you Ship them by December 15th 2004!
after the scarves, hats and mittens are collected they will be distributed to homeless charities and women and childrens shelters.

I have a story that might inspire everyone to make even just one scarf!

One october I voulenteered at a soup kitchen that did outreach work. We spendt an evening packing up trucks with donated groceries, we also got a donation of hats, scarves and gloves. After the trucks were packed up, we drove to a train station in a really disadvantaged neighborhood. As we pulled into the parking lot to set up (1.5 hours before the food line opened for the night) I saw a line of about 50 people waiting, Families with kids, babies, ect....
We set up tables with crates of the groceries and the hats scarves and gloves. I was stationed to hand out the hats, gloves and scarves, the last spot on the line.
All the families were given bags to "food shop" the line.
The Line opens and as the parents make there way throught the line picking up there weeks groceries, the kids come running down to me and start trying on hats, scarves and gloves, so excited. At  first i couldnt place the kids excitment, untill one of the mothers walked down and thanked me for working the food line  and needless to say the family was so finacially down that putting on the hardest thing for them right now, that they coudnt afford warm winter clothes.
I kept my self together but as soon as i got in the car to drive home, i lost it and the tears flew. I was so upset.

So On that note, I would like to organize this drive so that we can help people who are in rough situations
any one who start working on your scarves, hats, mittens and gloves the more smiles we can put on peoples faces this winter!!!

Please PM me if interested in participating and i wills end you the addy to mail to!

Thanks!
