1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / wicked awesome knitting books? on: February 12, 2006 06:51:42 AM
I have a 25$ gift certificate for amazon, and i'd really like to buy a knitting book. Most of the books that i've looked at on the amazon.ca site don't have pictures of the inside of the books.  I don't want to buy something when i haven't really heard much about it, or haven't seen the inside of the book.  Sooooo to get to my point, i was wondering if any of you follks could recommend some knitting books to me.  Oh, and i already have Stitch 'n Bitch.

Thanks a million!

2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / lining knit hat on: January 20, 2006 07:53:15 PM
i would like to knit a cable had, but i'd like to add a fleece lining.
this is the pattern that i would like to use.  Also thanks to kittyscorner for bringing the pattern to my attention!

My question is: i have no idea how to do this.  has anyone added a lining to hats that they've made before? have you had to make big adjustments?  Any tips that you could throw my way would be really appreciated.
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / woven basket stitch on: November 09, 2005 06:52:29 PM
i found this in "vogue dictionary of knitting stitches" and i'm in love with it. i want to knit a scarf for my sister using this.  normally i'm not so thick, but i can't wrap my head around how to do it.

the pattern reads (in case you can't read it)
multiple of 2
row 1: *with right hand needle behind 1st st, k 2nd st tbl, k 1st st; repeat from * to end of row
row 2: p1, *p 2nd st, p 1st st; repeat from * to last st, p1.

i'm getting stuck at what to do with the the 2nd st. do i slip it off after i k that st?  do i slip them off after i k the 1st? so confused, now the more i try to think about it the more confused i get. i'd appreciate any help, especially with pictures.
4  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / na na na na na na na na batman! on: October 25, 2005 06:56:06 AM
My son Robin has been begging me (since he learned to speak) to make him a batman costume just like Adam West.

i sewed the black parts on the pants after i had the pants all finished, so it was a little tough to get that part on.  i couldn't find a decent picture of the adam west bat symbol (i was going to silk screen it on to the front) so i just cut up a pair of pyjamas and a shirt that he had and sewed it on the front.  The suit itself is made with grey fleece.  nice and toasty for trick or treating (halloween is cold in nova scotia).  i was going to go with grey spandex, but the stuff they had in the fabric store looked light green instead of grey. I think the fleece worked out better though.

Thanks for looking!

7  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / brand spankin new hat. on: March 29, 2005 09:26:30 PM
So i went to Whistler BC to visit my boyfriend last week.  He told me not to bring hat, mits, etc because it was really warm up there.  So i show up and they get a snowstorm.  It was freezing out.  I  had a little bit of yarn and needles there because i finished a scarf while there so i whipped up this little diddy.  (It wasn't actually whipped up, it didn't get finished until about 3 days after i got home.) Pattern is done in seed stitch. I'm still not sure if i should be keeping the ball on top yet.

10  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Bright and lofty on: January 02, 2005 09:34:35 AM
My partner's sister gave me 4 skeins of Red Heart Bright and Lofty yarn as a present,  2 are purplish and 2 are greenish.  I have no idea what to make with them.  I don't think they'd make nice hats, and i'm pretty sick of making scarves, so i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for patterns and projects.

Thanks a bunch
Jil
