1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Superhero Camp! on: July 22, 2008 11:34:29 AM
So
I'm the Arts and Crafts director at my organization's camp, and the theme this year is Superheros! I have some ideas of my own but I'm still on the hunt for more.
Here's what I have so far:

Fortress of Solitude (cardboard castles)
Capes
Masks
Chest Decals
Heros Log (journals)
Utility belts (denim)
Wanted posters
Snake Ties
Superhero signals (thinger over flashlights)
Picture frames
Tie-dye bandannas
Wristcuffs

So if you have any ideas, share 'em! I do have a limited budget so anything that recycles is great. And the ages of these kids is 8-11.
Oh! And if it can be "generalized superhero" that would rock. I say this because finding colouring pages that aren't copyrighted is quite the challenge.
2  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Size 10 Boys Button down shirts on: May 23, 2007 07:33:04 PM
So my baby brother is growing up (he's almost to my ears!) and so I have all his Old Navy size 10 boys white button down shirts from the uniform section. What do I do with them all?! i can't make dresses, they're already too small. Any suggestions?
3  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Kids Camp on: May 23, 2007 07:25:45 PM
At the end of August, I'm going to be a cabin leader at a camp that an organization I belong to runs. The kids that come to these camps are under-privledged so camp is a really special and challenging time for them and I want to make my cabin feel extra special. So I need help from you fellow crafters to make camp awesome. Especially for dress up and quiet time.
Our theme this year is pirates (yeah, be jealous) so I'm going to dress up like a very PG-rated wench. I've got my long skirt and I'm going to make a romantic shirt and fitted bodice but that's all for dress up. I was thinking of also making some charm earrings for myself and shrinky dink skull barrettes for my girls.
For quiet time, I'd love to have a really simple easy craft that doesn't take a lot of supplies. And if anybody knows any awesome quiet games or songs other than the old standbys (stella, I-spy, etc) I'd really appreciate it.
Ooh, and we also decorate our cabins too, so any ideas would be helpful.
Again, I really appreciate any suggestions and thank you in advance. Camp is really important to me and I really want to make it awesome for my girls.
4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Gift for driving to school on: September 28, 2006 10:11:58 PM
Okay, so since I started college a girl in my class drives me to school with her which would normally be an hour on transit. So because she is so sweet I want to gift her with something to say thanks but I want to give her something besides gas money (so impersonal!) that she'll really like. Any ideas?
I can knit, crochet (beginner), sew and most basic crafty things.
Thanks in advance!
5  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / "The Ringer" costume on: August 23, 2006 09:25:45 PM
Fall is just around the corner, and I'd love to have a jacket like Katherine Heigl's character wears at the end of The Ringer. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of this awesome jacket, nor do I have any idea on how to make it. So if anybody can help me out that would be awesome.

Don't you wish there was a film costume index out there on the web?
6  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Roughin'it Camp cooking on: July 04, 2006 04:40:00 PM
I'm going camping in a few days sans cooler, stove, bbq, pots and pans and well, car. So I'm pretty much eating Chef Boyardee and oatmeal all weekend. I'm seriously going to miss fruits and veggies and dessert! What can I do? There's going to be maybe two smalls pots and pans on site, and there's no cooler for fruit, veg and meat. Transporting is also kind of an issue too; everything is on our backs. Help me not get scurvy!
7  CANADA / British Columbia / Buttons for Student film on: March 12, 2006 10:38:08 AM
Hey everyone, here's my situation: I'm working costumes on a student film for Capilano College, I need 20 buttons or so for cast and crew with the fake fast food logo we have. Since most companies I've checked out have the minimum way higher than what I need I'm hoping some willing Craftsters or friends of craftsters can help me out. If you have a button maker or access to one and live in the Lower Mainland I need you! I need 20-30 2.25 inch buttons for a reasonable price (my budget is less than $80-for the entire costume department) ASAP. If you help out your name or company will appear in the special thanks of the credits of a short film. Thanks all!

9  CANADA / British Columbia / Chinatown Mary janes on: February 25, 2006 09:29:47 AM
Does anybody know where those really cheap (like, $6) Mary Jane-esque shoes are in Chinatown in Vancouver? They're really great to craft with because a) they're insanely cheap and b) the material is great. Anybody know where?
10  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / CLIPS from IKEA on: January 15, 2006 05:45:57 PM
Okay, I know it's not crafty but I really need help with this. I got these things called CLIPS and they're like the glass of a picture frame and no actual frame. So they have these wierd metal things to keep the backing, picture and glass together that are IMPOSSIBLE to put in. Anybody know what I'm talking about and figured out how to put them in?
