1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: SquiPod iPod Cozy - with TUTORIAL/PATTERN on: January 19, 2006 11:00:46 PM

I don't think it would be very hard - just make the "body" to fit your cell phone, instead of an iPod.  The easiest thing might be to use a smaller gauge.

That is the most intensely awesome thing I've ever seen.

BeginnerKnitter - I love your robot's face!  It's awesome!

Monina - My name is Cynthia!  Awesome to meet another Cynthia into computer science.

ArrghMatey - I was the only girl in all of my classes as an undergrad, too.  Now I go to UC San Diego, and it's 20 percent girls!  It's crazy awesome.

Dijkstra and Alan Turing are both old school computer scientists.  (I'm sort of obsessed with both of them.)  Since I'm a computer science graduate student, I figured I needed some super-ultra-nerdy t-shirts, and iron-on letters got the job done.

waistfire - I used size five needles, since I was using a different yarn.  I chose my needle size based on something I thought would give me a nice, firm fabric, and didn't really care about the size of the finished toy.  I think my robot is smaller than the ones she made, but I like him that way.

I knit this with a pattern from the Jess Hutch booklet: "http://www.jesshutch.com/booklet.html"

I used left over Rowan Kid Classic and size five needles.  I'm a graduate student doing work with social robotics, so I thought that this guy was just the thing I needed hanging out in my office.

Pictures of him having an adventure with my cat are here:

8  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / Re: Post here, if u made or altered a skully sweater from Stitch n Bitch on: October 01, 2005 12:50:23 PM
Skully was the first sweater I ever made.  You can see pictures of it here:  http://www.pinkhairedgirl.com/archives/2004_02.php#002377

I used Rowan cork on size eleven needles.  It's a very good warm & cozy sweater for wearing while sitting around your house in winter.

Destroyed_Sweater - Your hair is awesome as well.  What do you use to dye it?

Fun Fur + size 3 needles = DISASTER.

Once school starts we should get together on campus and knit sometime.  (I have absolutely no idea what my schedule or anything is going to be like yet.  Basically, I plan to show up and hope that in 4 to 6 years they give me a PhD.)

Destroyed_Sweater - I am going to UCSD, for grad school.  I will totally check out Knitting in La Jolla, I've heard good things about it.

Thanks for the link with the knitting meet-ups info.  I would definitely be into a knitting group on campus at UCSD.  I'm sort of surprised there's nothing like that already.
