41  Angry Asuka is Angry in Needlework: Completed Projects by PaleAngelLex on: February 03, 2010 01:09:06 PM
Before Christmas I sat down and watched Neon Genesis Evangelion. I had already put together a small collection of items related to the show, shirts, model kits, bags, but I had never seen the whole thing. Turns out, I loved it; it was amazing and I'm glad I saw it. It was a mind trip, but worth it. Asuka was the most annoying character in the series, but at the end she pulls off some amazing work and I became a fan. To celebrate, I whipped up a piece based on how wicked cool she looks when she's determined.

This only took me about two nights to work. It's done mostly with one strand, but parts of the suit and her hair are done with two strands. I think I'm going to have to make a few more of these for other cast members. Please forgive the lint factor. I had cleaned it off, but in the search for good outdoor lighting, it got put in my pocket.

C&C are always welcomed and encouraged. Thanks for looking.

42  The Hot Zombie Girlfriend in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by PaleAngelLex on: January 04, 2010 06:04:12 PM
Over the summer I let my friends know that I was going to be making most of my Christmas presents this year. It's not that I'm really broke, okay so I am, but I also really wanted to make stuff for people. This past year has really been a trip down the rabbit hole of crafting, and I needed to turn random crafting into something productive. I left a post on our friendly blog, and one friend told me he wanted a girl to watch movies with. When I offered to crochet one he said it was creepy, but when I said I could make it a zombie, then he said it would cool.  I have never been on to make plushies, so I got some inspiration from lovething and her work. I think the hot zombie girlfriend turned out pretty well and different enough from lovething's that I don't feel guilty about it.

She's made out of some flannel that got stained when it was washed with some blue canvas. I thought the blue smudges would make it look a bit more like rotting flesh. The hair is fleece, and it's all hand stitched. The dress is made out of some scraps I had, and covered in red acrylic paint splatter. She has no legs, but her bottom is full of beans so she can sit on a desk and be a perfectly good paper weight.

The details are hand embroidered, and the spiral eye and ribs even glow in the dark. I couldn't get any good pictures of that, but after a minute under a halogen light it glows like crazy.

She wants a hug, and to eat your brains!!
C&C more than welcome, thanks for looking.

43  Re: November 2009 Birthday Swap Gallery and Discussion in The Swap Gallery by PaleAngelLex on: November 17, 2009 06:45:38 PM
So, I got my awesome stuff last week, and have been bad about putting up pictures. You guys just have to see my awesome new needle book from alwaysinmyroom. It's so cute and everything I wanted in a needle book!

There are actually two needle books. The first one I found was a blue, one of my fav colors, paint card folded up with felt stapled inside to make it into a very creative, and pretty needle book. There's also a bar of soap, that smells great, and will work well for waking me up in the morning. It's strong. Oh, but then there's the owl needle book. It's CUTE! I love the fabric, it's perfect. I couldn't stop looking at it.

Here it is open with some good needles. I've been using crappy ones from Wal-Mart for months now. They work, but are bent out of shape by the time I finish a project. They're just that thin. These though, these ones are different. I look forward to using them. Also, the inside is blue. It's such a bright, beautiful blue. There was also a pencil, a post card from Hersey's circa 1950's, and a card that made me feel special and loved. I normally have awful birthdays, but this one was pretty good.  Cheesy

Oh, I have a card for you alwayinmyroom, I just haven't written in it yet. I want it to be as nice as the card you sent me.

Finally, pictures!!

Nym did an awesome job on her package. I'm really happy that you made what you're best at. Soaps are something I can't make.

There are four bars here, three of them are named after my favorite houses, and their mottoes. There's Growing strong, it smells like flowers, We Do Not Sew, it smells wonderful like the ocean, and Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken which is my favorite. The Martell soap is green and orange and smells like citrus and spice. That's not really the right way to say it, but I'm not sure how. It's just perfect.

You can see the color better here. I'm not sure what the fourth one is, it wasn't wrapped or labeled, but I'm using that one in the shower now.

Here's some wonderful Dragon Rider's hand cream and the Wall lip balm. I always want hand cream, and never buy any. It smells really nice, like herbs. I hate flowery stuff all over my hands, so this is perfect. I haven't tried the lip stuff yet, but always buy some for the winter. Now I don't need to.

This necklace is very cool. She ran with my love of ravens, and put a nice quote on it from one of Bran's chapters. I could not get a good picture, but the quotation is, "'The answer is flying, not crying How hard can it be?' 'You have wings,' Bran pointed out. 'Maybe you do too.'"

This is a huge jar of bath salts! It's based on the Reeds, and smells so nice. There's also a Stark mirror. I've never done mirror etching before. I just have to find somewhere to put it now.

I'm finally getting my s*** together. I have picture of Sonja's towel. I know you've been having some issues with your camera Sonja, so I took a picture of your whole towel. If you'd like me to post it, let me know, but I won't until you ask.

I saw no one had done anything from Pretty in Pink, so I thought I would. I really wanted to do Andie's dress on a dress model, but I couldn't find a great picture, and I kinda suck at drawing. That being said, I found a really great quote to work with.

A small detail. I managed to work some craft elements into the towel, since there was crafting in the movie after all. I had a lot more fun with this towel than I thought I did. Hope you like it Sonja!

I finally have some pictures of what I've been up to. I sent off Zombie Queen's towel, I'll get the DC number out after this post.

This is what i worked up for ZQ's towel.

I didn't get a really good picture of it on its own. I'm really thrilled with how this came out. The thorns are my fav. I've never pulled off satin stitch this nice. It was also the first time I played with seed stitch, but I really wanted to work it in, hoping that it would really tie it up nicely with the wonderful calaveras already on the towel.

Here's the towel so far.

Yesterday was a really long day at school, so I finished up Third Margaret's towel while I was hanging out with friends.

I had no idea what to do that would be Halloween, but a friend happened to be wearing an octopus necklace the other day. I suddenly knew I had to do a tentacle monster. The words glow in the dark. I also think this is the best work I have ever done. I'm totally in love with it and am going to work a larger one up for myself. This swap has been amazing, and I really feel like I've gotten worlds better than when i started this swap. Hope you guys like everything, and don't worry Sonja, I'm not sending TM's towel out until Tuesday (next chance I can get to the post office).

I finished Lily's towel today. I don't know how many of you will get this, I'm not sure I would and I watch Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

No, it's not a page out of a coloring book. It's Charlie's lyrics for "Night Man". If you're a fan of Always Sunny, then  you know what I'm talking about. If you don't watch, you may not want to google this.

Hope you like it Lily!

What tattoo were you thinking of? Just out of curiosity...

It's an Aztec symbol called a smoking mirror. I want do research down in Mexico. I really love the Pre-Columbian cultures down there. Of course, that's a picture from when it was still new. It's just white now.
