51  Re: WIP Wednesday - May 4, 2011 in Crochet: Discussion and Questions by PixieVal on: May 04, 2011 03:21:15 PM
Here is the scrap afghan where I decided to give it a break for a while, its wide enough for me and my daughter to cuddle under, and almost long enough..

Here's what I started doodling with, not so much free form, just felt like making some little grannies, used Mio's join as you go, and ended up with frames.

While I am a fast crocheter by most people's standards, I am slow compared to some of you. Cheesy I made the frame while watching a couple hours of glee last night, and will probably toss into my purse tomorrow and weave the ends during lunch.
Toying around with what to do with the centers, made a larger granny, but don't love the look of it on the inside, so thinking of making different types of squares to put in the frames, then sew all the frames together for a large afghan.

I have enough of the blue yarn to make all the frames in the same colors.

Yay! I'm glad you posted about WIP Wednesday in your afghan thread Mio, I love seeing projects in progress!
I love that hat, and I cannot wait to see the finished Dr Who blanket, that is way too awesome! How big are the squares?

Here are my 2 projects I'm working on, a shell stripe afghan, which might actually turn into a scarf because I'm working from stash, and I don't know if I have enough complimentary colors for an afghan.

And a scarf, I think the colors go together well, though they're not my colors. I'm just working on stash bust so I can justify buying yarn at yardsales this summer. Cheesy

56  Re: 2011 DeStash-Along in Craftalongs by PixieVal on: April 20, 2011 08:22:58 PM
Ok... I'm in!

So I've decided to destash, I dragged this bag upstairs and decided to use it all up before touching another bag. My stash of yarn isn't too too out of hand considering how often I crochet, but its still starting to take over the basement.

First thing I grabbed out was a mixture of greens, browns and whites. the result was this 10 foot long scarf, my first project with fringe, which always intimidated me before, but after doing it now... wow! its simple! Now I have to figure out what to do with it, I already have a lot of scarves, but I do really like it...

Then I had Lily go through my crochet books, and she picked out this bee from... Too Cute Crochet(I think). Of course, I suck at totally following a pattern, so its acrylic instead of wool, different colors than the bee in the pic, and I couldn't find my safety eyes, so Lily found the sunglasses in my button box, and that is what he got for eyes! Cheesy I HATE making amigurumis, but I dealt with it here for her. Cheesy It has wings, but I could NOT figure out the pattern for the wings, so I just *winged* it.

Then I made these grannies with nothing in mind in particular this past weekend, they'll probably find their way into a box...

And with that... I think I'm officially going to join the destash along.

58  HSH Featured Artist 1st Quarter 2011 miep in Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions by PixieVal on: April 13, 2011 06:47:37 PM

Subject: Meet Our 1Q2011 Home Sweet Home Featured Member - miep!

This quarter's featured member is always happy to share her room makeovers with us. We admire her creativity and sense of fun. We're pleased to announce this quarter's featured member is miep!

Tell us a little about yourself.

From early on I love crafting, decorating and refurbishing furniture.  My biggest challenge is to make my house my home on a budget and with clever solutions.  I'm very impulsive, so the morning when I decide that i want a different color on the wall, the walls have been painted in the evening.  Therefore, my boyfriend gets crazy from me, luckily he usually finds the end result beautiful.  Wink  Craftster and decorating blogs inspire me, and I am therefore delighted that people on craftster appreciate my rooms and decorating skills.

You've posted some terrific room makeovers here, are you redoing your entire house?

Yes I want to redecorate my whole house, and in my head I know exactly how I want every room. I have a few projects half finished, as my toilet, my craftroom and my daughter's room (which I already have put on Craftster  ). This summer we want to do the exterior of the house. We need to paint and clean the outer walls.  I also can't wait to buy flowers and plants to cheer it up.

Which room redo has been your favorite so far?

The pirate room of my son, because I could go totally crazy on the smallest details. I've really been able to use my fantasy. . I am also very proud of my garage door. Every time I drive down the street it looks great.

What do you have planned for your next Home Sweet Home project?

We have ordered a new vibrant red couch, and now we want to redecorate the living room. It is going to be in oriental style.  I have been collecting all kinds of decorations in oriental style. And I want to use red, gold and brown colors. Because we want to close the door in the livingroom we also need to do the entryway too. Again, I have everything completely planned. Here comes padded wallpaper on the wall and butterflies and insects everywhere on the wall.
I can not wait to get started.  When it is finished I will show it on craftster.

What advice would you give someone who has a room they want to make over and doesn't know where to start?

Try to find out which style or color you love and google for inspiration.  Or what I usually do is: search for wallpaper or fabric where you are totally in love with, and design the rest around it.

On what other boards can Craftster members find your work posted?

I love to sew and creating crazy halloween or carnival costumes so you can find my work on the clothing board and I also like to use clay. Here is a link to a project on the polymer clay board.

What's your favorite item on Craftster created by someone else?

This is a difficult question because there are so many projects that I love on craftster. And I also get much inspiration from here.  I think this is a crazy project by coloringmyworld that I might have to copy
