1  Handbag from Old Pants in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by takocos on: August 29, 2012 05:44:51 AM
I didn't know if this should go here or in "reconstructed", but I wanted to show off the purse I made out of an old pair of pants.  The zipper is off an awful, floral print dress that was good for fabric (inculding lining) but godawful for anything else.

I know that there are a billion pixil stitchers out there, so I thought I'd upload some of the Inarsia patterns I made for your stitching pleasure.  I ripped the sprites from Pokemon Red using VBA, then cleaned them up and colored them in PCStitch.

4  Growltiger in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by takocos on: May 24, 2010 09:21:44 AM

Growltiger was a Bravo Cat, who lived upon a barge;
In fact he was the roughest cat that ever roamed at large.
From Graves-end up to Oxford he pursued his evil aims,
Rejoicing in his title of "The Terror of the Thames."

Woe to the weak canary, that fluttered from its cage;
Woe to the pampered Pekinese, that faced Growltiger's rage.
Woe to the bristly Bandicoot, that lurks on foreign ships,
And woe to any Cat with whom Growltiger came to grips!

~T.S. Eliot

My favorite poet, of all time, has to be TS Eliot. Though he strove for the perfect impersonal poems, those that could be understood and enjoyed by everyone, he fell flat with many works, such as the Wasteland that were actually more complex then many literary works at the time. However, Old Possum, as his wife called him, struck gold with Practical Cats- which was later made into a play, CATS by famed composer Andrew Loyd Weber Growltiger is a pirate who eventually meets his end in a battle with a group of Siamese pirate cats. His mate, Griddlebone, managed to escape with her life, and his dramatic deeds live through her! He worked for the mastermind McCavity when in English waters, and was known as the most frightening pirate on the high seas.

He is up-cycled from a pair of socks, and stuffed with fiberfill. His eye-patch is removable, and composed of some stash fabric. He's a cuddly little pirate- no need for swords, Growltiger uses his claws and teeth, not human crutch weaponry. He's just waiting for a pirate mate to take him home so he can begin his new life of adventures!

5  Tarus in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by takocos on: May 08, 2010 08:27:00 PM

Taurus does NOT believe in astrology. At all. It is pointless to post anything here because there's not a Taurus in the world out there reading it. They're stubborn in all aspects, and will never change what they're doing unless you can convince them that they thought about something better. But, that same trait applies to love and friendship; once you gain the companionship of a Taurus, they'll be on your couch forever. They are known for strength, charisma and creativity, and make successful musicians and actors. Befriend at least one Taurus- that way, when someone messes with you, they can scare them away. However, a crowd of them run the danger of group think.

Their element is Earth; their planet, despite not being a planet at all is the moon, and their gemstone is emerald. The poor constellation is constantly hunted by both the hunter and his hounds. There are dozens of little nods to the various traits of the Taurus on this critter- see if you can find them all!

Some Taurus of note include Sigmund Freud, Salvador Dali, Timothy McVeigh, Jack Nicholson- and of course, my little brother.

6  Blarga Blarga Blue Link in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by takocos on: May 02, 2010 10:29:35 PM
Link, the Hero of Time. The wielder of the Master Sword, the Blade of Evil's bane. This dashing hero is reincarnated through his family line every 300 years in order to prevent the evil wizard Gannon from conquering the kingdom of Hyrule. The strong, silent type, Link is a warrior in all respects; bearing the Triforce of courage, he will fight for his princess no matter what the odds, venturing into parts unknown, secure in the knowledge that his sheer badassery will see him throughout any challenge; perhaps with the help of a fairy or two along the way. He reminds us that real men don't need to level up. He enjoys sneaking, fighting, killing monsters, camping, children, playing his ocarina or flute, reading random spells that he find in dungeons despite having no mage training at all, boomerang contests, fishing, dogs, rabbits, and horsies.

This particular Link can breath underwater, due to the construction of his Zora tunic. Blue is a color that reminds us of comfort, meditation, wisdom, and all things aquatic. In Hyrule, Blue is associated with the mystic Zora and Zola peoples, who created this tunic in order to allow the Hylian Hero to fight their battles with them- underwater.

True to his ecological nature, our friend here is made entirely of 100% recycled yarn.

Red is the color symbolic of fire and passion. The red tunic has long been associated with protection, either specifically from fire, or as the vestment from a race who knew their armor. Red is the preferred color of the volcanic Gorons, as well as the desert-dwelling Gerudo.

This is my second of the Link "Blarga Blarga"s- I didn't really write a pattern, but they're made basically the same way.  Loves me some Legend of Zelda.

9  Mod Ducky in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by takocos on: September 26, 2009 08:25:54 PM
As soon as I saw the pattern on this pair of socks, I knew that I had to buy them, to free them, to find the critter within. Everyone has heard of a sock monkey, but this pair just didn't say "primate". Thus, Mod Ducky was born.
This little critter enjoys disco, free love, and all things retro. He longs for a new home to celebrate his new form, and share his love for life! Howard would be proud.

10  Link; he come to town! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by takocos on: September 19, 2009 05:24:14 PM
  Fighters are known, in the sword and sorcery multiverse, as hardened warriors, with more mobility and less hardheadedness then a Knight, making up any minute shift in strength for a wide gain in dexterity. Rangers live by the phrase, "know your environment" and may even prefer the wild outdoors to civilization; some have even been said to have taken the shape of "spirit animals" or "totems". Elves, by that same tolkein, are said to possess a brilliant tactitional mind in a body whose humanoid shape responds with a grace beyond the grip of all but the most hardened human warriors. This lethal combination enjoys sneaking, fighting, killing monsters, camping, fishing, and horsies.

Green is a color symbolic of the elements of earth and wood; those that make up the living base that everything else thrives upon. It would most commonly be used by Wood or Earth elves; or anyone trying to blend into a woodlands backdrop. It generally will do well in most climates.

True to his ecological nature, our friend here is wearing an outfit made entirely of 100% recycled yarn.
