1  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Looking for a first spinning wheel. on: November 28, 2012 10:56:17 PM
I so very badly desire to start spinning on a spinning wheel. I have done some hand spinning on a spindle, but I am looking to buy a spinning wheel in the near future.

Since I am a college kid I'd really appreciate the cheaper, more portable ones. The one I have my eye on now is the HitchHiker.

I also like the Sidekick but it is a bit pricier and I am a broke college kid Tongue

Any words of advice from experienced spinners?

I have been looking high and low for the best deals possible, so please let me know if you know of any good deals on spinning wheels!
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Recognize this yarn? on: November 02, 2012 12:17:48 PM
My friend and I really want to find out what type of yarn this is:

We think it'd be gorgeous to knit something in.
I'm thinking maybe Noro, but it seems not quite as "fuzzy" as Noro.

Thanks for any help!
3  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Completed Projects / First Woven Scarf! on: August 29, 2012 07:44:24 PM
I'm an avid knitter, and I am taking a weaving/fibers class this semester. I wove my first scarf today and I love it! It took far less than time than I thought it would. About an hour not including tying the warp and adding the buttons.

Wool yarn, basic weave, about 60+ inches. I love it!
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Jellyfish Keychain on: August 09, 2012 01:11:56 AM

I knit this little guy today; I love how it came out Smiley I plan on making a lot more to sell at a festival thing.

The yarn is patons 100% wool, which I loooove!
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Pokemon Starters on: August 08, 2012 12:28:54 AM
So I knit a Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle Cheesy

I love how they came out. No pattern, just made it up as I went!
I plan on doing more pokemanz in the future.

These are all made from Caron Simply Soft and stand about 6 inches each.
6  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Help needed: Figuring out a stitch pattern on: January 19, 2012 09:26:33 PM
One of my best friends grandmothers passed away recently and she had been knitting a blanket for her grand daughter. I was given the task of finishing it for her and I want to do it well. The pattern forms a type of basket weave and stockinette stitch hearts. I haven't done anything like this before so if anyone could link me to any similar paaterns id be very grateful!

It has a garter stitch border, then alternates between forming the "woven" looking sections and forming the hearts. Ill post pictures soon! In the meantime ill probably be counting rows and stitches and trying to figure it out the hard way!

Here are a few pictures!

7  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Striped Sweater! on: January 12, 2012 09:36:26 PM
I knit a sweater, using this tutorial! http://knitting-up-a-storm.blogspot.com/2007/04/5-in-paris.html

It's such an easy sweater! It's my second completed one, but I have to take in the collar of my first, so no pictures of it yet Wink

Blurry picture taken in a mirror in a hall in my dorm, ha! I'm really proud of how it came out Smiley

I used simply soft, took about one and a half skeins of each color.
The tutorial doesn't tell you how to do long sleeves, but I just picked up 8 stitches and began knitting in the round, decreasing one every 7 rows for about half the sleeve length. Also, I did a bit of the 'optional side shaping' you see later in the pattern

A little closer on the stripes...

Again, this pattern is SO easy and pretty, if you have ever wanted to try sweaters and were intimidated, I suggest starting here! This only took about 5 days to make!
I really want to make V-Neck sweaters, so if anyone knows any good tutorials or patterns please link me!
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / First legwarmers! on: November 17, 2011 09:50:27 AM
I loved making these and I  love wearing them! Cheesy

I used Patons 100 percent wool, and just looking at this yarn for so long made me hungry. It looks like candy D:

Knit on size eight DPNS, and its hard to see but theres a cable pattern alll down the sides.

Hope you guys like em Cheesy
9  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Some socks! on: October 21, 2011 11:21:15 PM
I recently got into knitting socks! Here are my first few pairs!

My most recent ones! I finished them tonight It took one skein for each sock. (Patons brand I do believe)

I mostly watched Dr Who whiles knitting these XD

These are cute little ankle socks, though you can't see the top part Tongue

They came out oddly Christmas colored! hahaha. This was my first finished pair... One is shorter than the other XD

I love this yarn- It's some sort of bamboo/wool type (wish I kept  the paper!) Super comfy and a great color!

I plan on making lots more socks, so if you have any suggestions or nice patterns, feel free to share! Cheesy
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Finn Hat! on: August 16, 2011 10:41:01 PM
I made Finn's hat, from Adventure Time! Haven't seen it? I highly recommend that you do!

That's Jake being a bra cop.

I plan on making more, so more pictures then! Took a couple hours, super easy :3
