1  Re: Embroidery Swap R9- Not just thread! (SO Mar 5) in The Swap Gallery by beccas_song on: March 08, 2013 03:50:47 PM
Received TWO lovely hoops this week! Prepare to be jealous!

First is PerfectlyBohemian's adorable berry hoop! It was her first try at stumpwork, and my first time to receive some. She did a beautiful job!!!! I love it and will be attempting to do some soon too. Smiley I can't tell you how much I love this hoop! Sorry I'm a crappy photographer. It was hard to catch all the details. The blackberries are needle felted and then beaded all over and look SO real. The strawberries are also felted with tiny seed beads sewn on. The leaves are all stumpwork. I swear, I did a happy dance when this came in the mail. It suits me so well and I am honored that she learned a new skill to try for my hoop. Thank you PerfectlyBohemian!!!

Next up is pugwash's hoop!

2  What to do with Herb, and Lonnie, and Mel, and Ruhlig?? in What the heck can I do with THIS? by beccas_song on: February 06, 2013 12:17:06 PM
So my husband and I were at an antique store when a mason jar caught our eye. Our conversation went something like: "Is that...?" "No, it can't be!" "It totally is!!" "We are so buying this!"

What were we so excited about? Why a jar full of men's name badges! The fabric kind that you see on mechanics' shirts and the like. Exactly like this one:

Maybe you don't think it's as funny as we do, but they are awesome! In this jar of gems we have Perry, Lonnie, Mel, Fred, Bill, Steve, Chuck, Herb, Dennis, Gary, Sam, and Willie! All the good 'ol boy names are there. There's also a Ruhlig (??), and of course, an Al! There are 31 different names total, and they all smell like a garage. Smiley

Now that we have aquired this strange collection, what to do with it? I need ideas! I don't just want to mount them in a frame. I wish my husband worked at a place that would make this funny: sew velcro on a jacket and mount a different badge on it every day to confuse people. But he works in a small office and no one would pay attention.

Any thoughts? I'd love to hear your ideas! The funnier the better!

I did this project a good 10 months ago, but haven't posted any of my projects in forever. Of course I was totally inspired by the amazing sheepblue's tutorial: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=401755.0

This was so much fun, and a good way to use up some of the junk I had lying around. I get compliments on it all the time, and my kids love "finding" all the different pieces. Sorry the pics are less than stellar, I am not a good photographer.

I received my package a few days ago! So sorry I couldn't get pics up as soon as I hoped. Packing to move is kicking my butt. Smiley

I am the proud owner of a fabulous new purse! I love it! It is fully lined and has a zipper pocket inside and an attached lanyard (that says I love Canada and had a Canada bear attached!). Isn't it nice? Thank you so much ragstostitches!

She also sent a pretty pair of glass bead earrings and a quilled letter B! Sadly, the B got pretty mangled in the mail, but I still love it! Again, thanks so much for everything! You were a great partner!

I received a beautiful package from dmarie360! I got TWO amazing pillows! They are so well done and thoughtful. They are in my favorite color, teal, featuring my favorite character, Lady Mary, and in my favorite style, Teesha Moore! And I adore decorative throw pillows. I don't think I mentioned that anywhere, how did she know??? Smiley On to the pictures:

The whole pillow:

Details!

the family tree

"You should learn to forget what I say. I know I do." The top picture in the frame is of Highclere Castle, aka Downton Abbey.

I love the phone!

a servants bell and "Kepp calm and act like Lady Mary"

I just love it!!! How did you print on the fabric? I'm so curious!

And if that's not enough, she did a filet crochet piece and made another pillow with it! Can you see Downton Abbey? I love it!

And finally, a pic of the backs. I love the fabrics you chose! I wish I had so much teal in my collection!

Thank you so much again Donna! I am blown away by the pillows. My husband even likes them, and he's not a DA fan! I had so much fin swapping with you!

8  Re: Spectacular Spring Easter Swap! GALLERY in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by beccas_song on: March 20, 2012 08:18:09 PM
So.... I received the most AMAZING package from gotgrey. I've never gotten such a big package in a swap! And it was FULL of wonderful! Here goes:

A string of birdies! SO cute! It will look adorable in my kids' room.

A cute and loveable frog stuffed animal. This guy is big! Over 2 feet long from toes to head. I love his floppy legs!

TWO adorable crocodiles. My son will LOVE these! I love them!

A big, fun gecko. My son also loves lizards of all kinds. Can't wait to put him in the Easter basket!

We're not done yet! I gasped when I pulled these out of the box: two handpainted canvas rabbits. They are so unique! Totally my style. I just love them!

And my FAVORITE item, another canvas bunny! This one is in a metal container with hadnpainted canvas eggs. He is so cute hugging his carrots!

And there's more! She painted a little wooden house (castle?) for each of my kids. They'll love them for their dollhouse dolls. There are also two decorated canvas bags, a decopauged basket and egg, a crocheted flower cuff, headbands, a wooden necklace, a cute bracelet, and a painted paper mache cupcake. Whew! I think that's all of it! Thank you SO much gotgrey! You made my day! And my kids will love their Easter baskets this year! You are a great swap partner!

I received the greatest tiny thing ever! An amazing bracelet with a quote and a mockingjay charm. I just LOVE it! It's straight off my pinterest and I never dreamed Abbeeroad would/could make it for me! I squealed when I opened it and wore it all day. My dentist even noticed it and asked what is was about. Smiley I can't wait to wear it to the midnight showing on Thursday! Thanks SO much Abbeeroad!

Ach, I forgot to take a picture of the packaging, sorry! It came in a little box attached to a parachute with a pearl on top. LOVE it! Great minds think alike, huh? Wink

10  Steampunk airship, on a cake! in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by beccas_song on: March 17, 2012 08:58:43 AM
For my brother's wedding last July, I was asked to make the wedding cake. Once we got the design set, my sis-in-law and I started talking about a groom's cake. She told me that if I could do a steampunk airship, it would rock their world. I told her that as long as the airship didn't have to be cake, I thought I could do it! My brain started turning, and this is what I came up with!

I used this picture http://anneangersbach.deviantart.com/art/Steampunk-Airship-132679776 and this artist's work http://www.annwoodhandmade.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7&products_id=267 for my inspiration. I also cut out a pic of this steampunk couple http://resident-jade.deviantart.com/art/Steampunk-Couple-169288314 to go inside and this gnome http://www.amazon.com/Gnomes-Wil-Huygen/dp/0810909650 . Want to give credit where it's due!

How I did it: The balloon was made from a balloon that I taped into shape and covered with fabric strips and paper mache. The ship is cardboard covered with old sewing pattern pieces (loved the color and texture). The wings are velum that I tinted and wrinkled. The bits and bobbles are from my stash, and I used quite a bit of copper wire- all the bits that look like string on the balloon are wire. It was held above the cake by a dowl that went through to a hole drilled in the base. It was really sturdy!

My brother was totally surprised by the cake/balloon, and my sis-in-law loved it. Especially the trail of gnomes from the back (inside joke from a role playing game they once did).

Hope you like it too! C&C welcome!
