1  Re: Happy Mail 2: The Return of the Doodads Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by zcrafter on: November 16, 2016 09:20:35 AM
I am glad you got your package safely and you like it!  I had a lot of fun crafting for this swap - especially making those little cards, and it was easy because both my partners had likes that crossed over.

Indeed! And you certainly nailed my tastes and interests.

I  received a lovely Happy Mail from Onyxnox. She definitely spoiled me, as you will see:

It all arrived in a hand painted envelope covered with leaf shapes and  the Happy Mail design. Just pulling it out of the mailbox made me grin.

And there was all of this:

Two blingy Christmas ornaments, a silvery Christmas card and tag, a bundle of leaf and acorn stitch markers, a leather and felt needlebook with a metal tag that says "embrace imperfection," and EIGHT little note cards with envelopes.

OH, and this bookmark with leather leaves.

Onyxnox, you not only spoiled me, you also made me feel so special by highlighting some of my favorite themes (dogs, leaves/trees, and needlework).

Thank you!

Flobot has returned from her Oregon adventures! She had a great time staying with artsycandice, and look what she has to show for it:

First, all the goodies, including a new sidekick named Strut the Rooster, a scrapbook FULL of delightful photos, a magnifier, an official Oregon Lips duck call, sunflower seeds, poppy seeds from artsycandice's yard, and all kinds of extras:

Some of my personal favorites -- a beautifully bright tie-dyed scarf by Levanna Appletree, Backyard Birds calendar, feather wall art piece by artsycandice, and a crow print by Shane Slayer. Also, she wrote messages inside these sweet, tiny poppy cards.

This tiny glass duck, which made me squeal with excitement:

And a nifty pendant with a duck silhouette cut from a coin! Flobot says I can wear it now and then.

Thank you so much, artsycandice! I feel truly spoiled.

I made a mini duck balloon for Flobot. They became fast friends.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy! I just love the balloon duck. What a great picture!

Hawk went on a long-awaited outing to the Chautauqua Institution in upstate New York. We had great weather, and Hawk enjoyed being with my sister and me.

Here's Hawk watching an organ concert in the Amphitheatre, which will soon be renovated. Small crowd, but very relaxing. The strangers in front of us didn't seem to mind Hawk's singing along:

Then we strolled over to one of my favorite houses on the Chautauqua Institution grounds, Park Place. Hawk posed with the doll that usually sits out front holding a poem:

We also visited the two Lucille Ball museums in downtown Jamestown NY. No flash photos inside, so I took these two shots before we went in:

The hotel where we stayed had an old trolley car that they used to shuttle us back and forth to the grounds. Hawk loved the colors and the old-style design:

Hawk wants to learn to drive. Good grief! I'm still trying to teach her to read!

I've been out of touch for a while.  The month of July has had me reeling! But Hawk and I had an opportunity to go to a graduation party at Quiet Creek Herb Farm and School of Country Living. What a place!

Hawk got all happy just seeing the sign at the entrance:

She enjoyed the herbs and flowers, especially the allium:

and many herbs:

She got tired and took a nap in their little store:

Before we left, I helped her hold the chalk and sign her name on the "guest book blackboard":

More adventures to come -- summer isn't over yet!

This swap is a blast! It's so much fun to see the TLVs enjoying such varied activities.

That shot of Anana in the inner tube -- hysterical!

And I love the idea that Aurora was a book ambassador.

As for Hawk, well -- she got into the nature theme this week. We visited Beartown Rocks in Clear Creek State Park. Here she is perched on the rocky sign:

She found a cute sprig of oak leaves on the ground, and it was the perfect size for this pose:

Then she tried climbing the big rocks. As you can see, it was an exciting climb for her:

She came home with a few smudges on her legs, but it was worth it. I might have to clean her up with a damp cloth.

Hawk is signing on for the state symbol challenge. At last, she was able to have a photo shoot with two, yes two, of Pennsylvania's state symbols.

Yesterday afternoon my friend/coworker rushed in to the library to tell me there is a mountain laurel bush blooming right outside! Hawk got really excited, so I grabbed my camera and off we went.

Mountain laurel, Pennsylvania's state flower, is incredibly dainty but showy at the same time. Once you've seen a bush in bloom, it's hard to forget.

See more photos on Hawk's blog:  www.hawkpa.blogspot.com

Hawk was so tickled with the whole experience, she insisted on an up-close shot of her pointing at the blooms.

Later in the day (on my way home from work), we walked back the road to our local dam. I had seen an eastern hemlock (Pennsylvania's state tree) back there a few days ago. Although the light was fading, we managed to get a couple of decent shots.

We couldn't get to the tree itself, but here's a shot of Hawk sitting on the rope railing, next to a utility pole. The hemlock is behind her.

And a zoomed-in closeup showing Hawk's beak with the hemlock needles.

No luck yet with getting a picture with any of the Pennsylvania symbols, but Hawk went to work with me one day last week. She loved the library!

She noticed that most of the librarians were wearing glasses, so I made her a pair to help her fit in. She watched as I did some work on the computer:

I'm not sure green is exactly her color, but she could read the fine print!

In the stacks, she zeroed in on this shelf, but kept asking, "Where are the books about ostriches?"

Hawk had a busy Friday!

We bought plants. She wanted to eat some of the herbs:

She helped teach music lessons:

She learned about our historic downtown:

And we saw a production of "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [Revised]."

Here's a clearer shot of the stage (no photos allowed during the performance):

And Hawk now has her own blog:  http://hawkpa.blogspot.com/

Gabby got to see ostriches and Hawk is jealous. She says they might have been her distant relatives.
