11  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Army of ninjas. on: March 21, 2009 04:18:48 PM
So, My friend wanted me to make her some Ninjas from the Creepy Cute Crochet, and in different colors.  So this is what I came up with.  We've named the yellow one Sunshine.  He might look happy, but that's his cover.  He will still kill you.  Stealthily.

12  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Baby sweater! on: March 16, 2009 12:20:05 AM
Its my first foray into crocheting something that wasn't a hat or scarf or blanket or something like that.  You know, something actually wearable!

I go to bingo at the gay and lesbian center every month and one of the lesbian couples had a kid about a year ago.  She's adorable, and since they help organize the bingo every month, they bring her and its been kind of neat to see her "grow up" - I mean, I only see her for about an hour a month but you know, I'm kidless by choice so its nice to see OTHER people's kids.  And making them stuff is cute and fun.

This is a close up of the button.

I got the pattern from ravelry - it was called the "baby topper" I think.   It took me about a week to make... and I made both sleeves yesterday and got most of it put together yeseterday (last night was the bingo for the month) but it wasn't done in time to give to the ladies...so I'll give it to them next month.
13  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Question about making a hat a smaller size on: February 27, 2009 07:44:19 PM
I made this http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/nubby-brim-cloche  The Nubby Brim Cloche for a lady at work.

(here's the version I did)

Everyone RAVED about it (which made me incredibly happy), including one of the other ladies I work with that wants one for her six year old daughter.  I'm not sure how to make it smaller for her though.  I mean, yes, smaller yarn and smaller hook, but how about the increasing... it works up to 48 stitches around eventually, and I was thinking of leaving it at 40 and instead of stopping the top part at 15 rows, stopping at 13.  Do you think that'd be small enough for a 6 year old girl??
14  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / Question about the Monkey blanket/hat on: January 27, 2009 09:27:59 PM
I really want to make this for a friend of mine that is going to be having a baby soon, but I can not find the bernat denim style rodeo tan ANYWHERE.  At the Bernat site, its not even LISTED.  I'm thinking that means its discontinued??

Does anyone know where I can get this yarn?  Or what some good substitutions are?  She's having a girl so I suppose plain tan or taupe and pink would work instead of the rodeo tan and red?

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Edie
15  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Geometric type hat - 3 pictures on: January 27, 2009 09:23:47 PM
So I've been looking for a hat to make my mom for a while now.  I tried about 8 different ones and frogged them all because I didn't get something I liked or the pattern didn't make sense.  So, I decided to go with my own.  I ended up frogging this one about 4 times before I got something that was actually hat-like.  Basically, I started with 12 dc in a magic ring and then increased for a while... Then I did 2 dc, ch1, skip one stitch and 2 dc so I got little squares.  I tried to do a triangle too, but that made it do a weird flairing thing.  So I just did another row of squares.  I ended with the scallop thing on the edge because I made her the scarf from the Happy Hooker book and it has the scallops too.

Thanks for looking!
16  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Crochet Challenge 8 Entry - Coffee Cozies! on: January 25, 2009 11:20:11 PM
I used a very tiny amount of the sugar and cream yarn from walmart for the pink/purple/white one.  And a tiny amount of I think the Red Heart Sport in yellow that I got on sale at Michale's for $2.99 for the whole skein.  The "expensive" part of the project was the buttons.  Each was on a card for 2/$2.42 so I think the entire project might have cost me about $5.

I made 36 of these at Christmas time for all the people in my office.  I came up with the "pattern" on my own after looking at a bunch of these online.  Basically, I chained 11 or 12 or 13 or whatever I felt like and then crocheted single crochet rows until it was a size that would fit around a coffee cup (like the paper ones from Starbucks) and then sewed it together and added the buttons! Very easy and very fun.

I made a scarf for my mom from the Happy Hooker book - the one skein scarf.  I have to use my camera phone and the lighting kind of sucks because I've lost all the cables to my real camera - including the charger.  I used Red Heart Sport in Red, even though it looks rather orange in the picture.

anyway, here is the scarf:

And I also made the Boy's Beanie hat from the same book for my younger brother.  Its the Red Heart Navy and the grey is something I found that is not the same weight at all, but I bet he won't notice.

And a scarf to match - but I kind of thought that the scarf I made my mom was a little too girly for the younger brother, so I found one that was just stripes of single crochet and the fringe is just chain stitch.

The final thing I've completed so far is a baby blanket for some friends of mine that just had a baby.  I used the Red Heart multi and then did the border in a sage green.  Its the Little V stitch blanket from the lions brand site.  I actually really like the little picots and how the whole thing turned out.
