1  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Elephant Quilt on: December 02, 2009 06:41:19 AM
HI All!

I made this mini art quilt for the Mini Art Quilt Swap #2, for my partner fabricfriend.
I used 2 of her themes:  India  and Religion
When I think of India I always think of beautiful elephants draped with carpets and tassels!
I machine appliqued a decorated elephant. I satin stitched all the appliques!  The back ground with the stars is meant to be the night sky.  The light circle is like the moon and the elephant is dancing and prancing happily across in front of the moon.  The quilting lines radiate out from the moon.  It is quilted with gold metallic thread.  I used alot of bright, rich colors and purples and golds which are royalty colors.

This is a Buddist celtic endless knot.  It symbolizes the endless cycle of birth, life, death and rebirth and how all things are connected and related to each other.  The circle is also symbolic.  The Endless Knot is one of the most favored symbols in Tibetan Buddhism. It is composed of right-angled, intertwined lines that signifies the dramatic interplay and interaction of the opposing forces in the dualistic world of manifestation, leading to their union, and ultimately to harmony in the universe. This fact is reflected in the symmetrical and regular form of the endless knot.
The intertwining of lines remind us how all phenomena are conjoined and yoked together as a closed cycle of cause and effect. The whole composition is a pattern that is closed on in itself with no gaps, leading to a form of great simplicity and fully balanced harmony.
Since all phenomena are interrelated, the placing of The Endless Knot on a gift or greeting card is understood to establish an auspicious connection between the giver and the recipient. At the same time, the recipient is led to righteous karma, being reminded that future positive effects have their roots in the causes of the present. This is because the knot represents a connection, a link with our fates, binding us to our karmic destiny. Since the knot has no beginning or end it also symbolizes the infinite wisdom of the Buddha.
The Circle of Life is a symbolic representation of saṃsāra in the form of a circle , used primarily in Tibetan Buddhism. Saṃsāra is the continuous cycle of birth, life, and death from which one liberates oneself through enlightenment  into which a being is continually reborn until they attain nirvana.

Close up of elephant, I made the 2 tassles myself!  I drew the eye with fabric markers!

I machine embroidered positive words around the circle,  The top says "Believe", then the left says "Hope"

The right side says "Trust"

The bottom of the circle says  "Faith"

I also hand sewed lots of little seed beads around the circle!

There is alot of thought and symbolism in the little  20" x 22"  mini quilt!

I had alot of fun making this mini quilt!
2  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / First Fingerless Gloves on: November 05, 2009 02:51:01 PM
Hi
Here is my first ever post on the crochet board!!  I love to crochet!  I usually just make afghans or amigurumi's....but today I decided to make something really useful!  I really admired all the fingerless gloves on here and decided to make my own!  Alot of times store bought gloves just don't fit my hands right.  I have pretty small hands and long fingers and long finger nails!  So regular gloves don't fit me very good!  Anyways I decided to crochet my own fingerless gloves and adjust them to fit my hands .........  like a glove!  LOL
I used this basic pattern .... but I changed it a little to fit my hands better and I made the wrist part longer!
 http://nadinespatterns.blogspot.com/2008/05/handwarmers-crochet.html

Here they are!  They fit great!  They are sooo comfy!!  Grin Grin

Thanks for looking!!   Grin
3  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Coffee Quilt on: October 28, 2009 01:03:23 AM
I made this Coffee Quilt for superhooker in the Happy Homemaker Swap!
The pattern is called Java Jive from LizzieB Cre8ive,  I love her patterns!
http://www.lizziebcre8ive.com/patterns.asp
It is all machine applique and machine quilted on a HQ 16 long arm.

Close ups!

Here is pics of the quilting on the back!  It is coffee cups with steam coming out!

This was so much fun to make!  Now I need to make one for myself! Wink

8  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Ribbon Organizer on: August 23, 2009 01:40:10 PM
I used to have my ribbons all stacked up on a shelf and everytime I would try to get just the right ribbon for a project, the whole stack would fall down and then the ribbons would unwind and just make a big mess!!  SO one day out of pure frustration, I decided to make my own ribbon organizer!  I had seen this one on here....  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=225080.0   and I thought.....I can do that!!

So here is my ribbon organizer!

back

wooden hanger

I also used dress pins to pin all the ribbon ends down.....it works much better than the tape I was using before!!

So now me and my ribbons are happy!! Cheesy

Rd 1 Gallery   http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=286526.0

Small Item = 1 point
Med Item = 2 Points
Large Item = 3 Points

For new swappers there might be a bit of a confusion as to what is a large, medium, and small item, so here's a handy guide:

Small = By time, 2 or less hours of crafting. By $$$, $10 or less. By size, Earrings, stickers, wallets, pouches, bookmarks

Medium = By time, 2 or more hours of crafting. By $$$, $10-$30. By size, one single necklace or bracelet, a scarf

Large = By time, 3 or more hours of crafting. By $$$, $30 or more. By size, A shawl, a shirt, a skirt, a set of jewelry with four to five items, a purse

This is not totally set in stone, but is a rough estimate of sizes described by time it takes to make package, by physical size and by cost.

Rules:

All participants must check in at least once a week, by pm or by posting in this thread, and tell their progress.
If your partner is within the US, you MUST get a DC and pm it to the organizer and your partner.

Be aware of the comments section on wists, someone might add something and you go to make it, but didnt notice in their comments that they would only want that item in a different color.

Important note: Feedback will be given after you send, your partner receives, and post pictures of what you sent. If you do not have a camera, please make arrangements with your partner so they can take pictures before they send.

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO ORGANIZER VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE.  PLEASE SEND YOUR PM TO  RyverChyld  PLEASE PUT "PINK SWAP"  IN IN THE SUBJECT OF THE PM

Okay, here we go.  Please check in with your partner if you have any questions.  When it gets time to send out, you must send a pm to both me (the organizer) AND your partner with the Delivery confirmation number (or copy of mailing reciept for those of you international participants for whom delivery confirmation is not available).  And again, you are required to check in via pm (to me) OR post to the thread at least once a week.  I will be keeping track.  Communication is key to a successful swap.  Okay! Lets have some fun!

NO FLAKERS!!!!
