1  Felt Mailboxes in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by little sister handmade on: March 26, 2009 02:23:38 PM
I've been working on these mailboxes forever, thanks to the very poor decision to blanket-stitch all the teeny tiny windows rather than just friggin' gluing them.  I think they may have turned out a bit long, but I still am pleased with them.  The felt inside is a little loose because I didn't account for how much shorter that piece should be compared to the outer piece.  I haven't given them to the littles yet, but am envisioning leaving little love notes for them to find...

2  Little woodland fairies and their homes in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by little sister handmade on: March 11, 2009 06:44:33 PM
For Valentine's Day, I made my daughter a little gourd house, roughly following the instructions from a tutorial on Bitter Betty's Blog, adding a wooden base and a set of little fairies of my own design:

The gourd wasn't flat enough on the bottom for the hot glue to hold it onto the base for long, so I'm reworking that now.  When a little friend's third birthday came up, I decided she needed some fairies, too:

But I needed an alternative to the gourd house for their home, since I haven't fixed my daughter's yet, and I came up with this super easy little idea:

The little fairies can sit at the table when it's time to play:

Or they can retreat into the little box when it's time to sleep:

There are tutorials for the fairies and the little woodland box (not that you really need a tutorial for that one) on my blog.

Thanks for looking!

3  The Mitten, stuffed with critters in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by little sister handmade on: January 29, 2009 03:31:44 PM
My little man (almost 19 months) has never been the book fan his sister has been since she was two months old (seriously, could stop a complete screaming fit by opening a book).  Until now. He's fallen in love with Jan Brett's The Mitten, and so I made him a little Valentine's Day present to celebrate his new-found book love!

Here are all the animals:

Here they are eyeing the mitten:

And here they are, stuffed into the mitten:

I'm pretty happy with it, especially since it was my first real 3-dimensional needle-felting project (I attempted and failed to make a pumpkin a few months ago).  I got the pattern for the mitten itself at a cool craft supply swap fundraiser for a local art group, and the wool for the mitten is from sheep at the working farm our county has close to our house.  My kids know the sheep, and I know they don't get eaten, so we're all happy!

I had a little contest on my blog, posting an animal a day until someone guessed what I was doing -- my friend Ellen got it on the fourth animal.  Impressive, since she doesn't have kids yet, though her mother is a librarian, so I'm sure that helps!

There are pictures of the individual animals on my blog, in case you haven't seen enough Smiley  http://www.littlesisterhandmade.com/2009/01/the-mitten/

Thanks for looking!

4  Valentine's Day Countdown Calendar (with link to tutorial) in Valentine's Day by little sister handmade on: January 15, 2009 08:20:46 PM
Here is the Valentine's Day Countdown Calendar I made for my littles:

Here are the pocket inhabitants peeking out

Here they are around the tree

And here's my favorite guy

There are a ton more pictures and a full tutorial on my blog, if anyone's interested -- Little Sister Handmade.  It was fun, but took a while.  I'm glad I started with a 14-day one instead of an advent calendar!

I hope you enjoy it!
