11  Re: Big Project stitch-along 2011 in Needlework: Stitchalongs by Phooka on: February 21, 2011 01:42:34 PM
While taking pictures of my new stand frame, it occurred to me that it was a prime progress pic, too!

Need to finish this gal up. Been distracted making a rag rug.

Finally got some progress pics of Harley. Not great quality, but I got tired of fussing with the camera!

I just finished her face. Was nice to use some new colors after so much red and grey.

I love making cross-stitch patterns out of pixel art. And I adore Harley Quinn. So...I got it in my fool head to combine the two, in a sizable way. I found a great piece of art here

After running it through PCStitch, I got this:

Because I am utterly insane, she's being stitched 1 over 1 on 25 count black Lugana. Was a study in eyestrain at first, but I've gotten used to it and learned the fabric. Gotten quite easy to work on. And the teeny squares work really well for altered pixel pieces!

I started her on Boxing Day, and am getting her done a lot faster than expected. Unemployment and audiobooks yay!
Progress thus far:

I think I might need some more big projects soon.

(I originally made a pattern for this piece in '09 -See here- on 18 count white aida, but the piece and pattern got lost in a move so I had to start over. I only had her face done anyway, and this one's turning out better!)

I'm going to be brave and start a pattern I made up a month or two ago!

(Click the image to see the bigger version.)
My beloved Harley Quinn, favorite in all the DC 'verse. She's going to be on 18ct Aida, so you can imagine the size. About one foot by one and a half feet, 194w x 312h in stitches. My biggest cross-stitch by a long shot. Heading out to buy the floss and fabric today.

15  Jellyfish tote! in Needlework: Completed Projects by Phooka on: January 28, 2009 01:52:55 PM
Definitely my most painful project to date. Stitching canvas was an adventure that bent at least three of my needles >.<
However, the end result was so worth it! I plan on using this as a green shopping bag to keep in my purse. It makes me so happy!

The pattern is from Sublime Stitching's Craft Pad. I used split stitch and satin stitch with four strands of floss for the design. There's also the lovely little iridescent seed beads. The top bits (heads?) of the jellies are a mix of thread colors from the tentacles.
The amount of satin stitch almost killed me. What was I thinking?! It was my first real go at it, so it's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. The fabric weave didn't help much. Still, it's all held up in the wash so far. Even the beads!

16  My first Sublime piece - left-handed drumkit in Sublime Stitching Embroidery by Phooka on: January 15, 2009 09:03:54 PM
Left-handed because I put the transfer on the front instead of the back! It's all done in backstitch, then crayon-tinted. I rather like the effect given when the crayon's done around the stitches. It's to be framed eventually.

Apologies for the link. Since I haven't posted before now, it won't let me just post the image.
