1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / A Little Piece of Embroidery on: July 21, 2009 11:52:39 AM
I decided to learn how to embroider a couple of months ago after seeing all of the great projects on this site.  This is the first (and only) thing I ever embroidered.  I just found it in one of my dresser drawers. Smiley

It turned out a little crooked and shaky because I can't sew in a straight line, but I kind of like it.

One of the things I don't like is that lines are really thin compared to the other needleworks I see on this site.  I don't know if I'm using the wrong kind of thread or fabric or something.  Are there some special materials you need for embroidery to make it turn out right?
2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Duct tape bag type thing on: March 17, 2009 05:09:54 PM

This bag is made of duct tape, scotch tape, calendar paper, and buckles from an old life jacket.

That's what it looks like inside.

Here's a better picture of the straps.

I got the pattern here: http://eeio.blogspot.com/2004/12/recycled-banner-golden-mean-messenger.html.  I used the second pattern from that blog to make this bag.  I think I used too much paper because it's really stiff (looks more like a purse than a messenger bag) but it's pretty comfortable to wear and holds a fair amount of stuff.

Thanks for looking!

3  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Taxi Themed Table on: January 25, 2009 06:15:06 AM

In art class, we had a project where we had to make a chair, floor mat, fountain, and piece of furniture of your choice all relating to one theme.  Mine was "taxi".  This one is the piece of furniture, a ugly table with a cool shape that I found at a yard sale and repainted.  Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of it before I started working on it.

We also had to use a recyclable item and one item that we found at a dollar store.  I used newspaper (because it was easy, of course) and those little paper umbrellas that you put in your drinks.

It's hard to tell, but the road and the sides of the table are newspaper.  That section under the road and the fireworks are made from collaging the paper from the umbrellas.

Here's the painted picture on the surface of the table.  I don't think it turned out so well.  The sky is all splotchy.  Smiley

And here's the raised section of the table with the umbrella fireworks.

What do you think?
