Details of swap:
In this swap you will just be crafting one completed and clothed (if applicable) poppet for your partner. ***Just to clarify, this swap is considered a “poppet mini swap” in the sense that we are simply about sending a single poppet, as opposed to sending a poppet with supplies and whatnot, as would be required in a larger swap. However, if you would like to make or receive a mini (or smaller sized) poppet, please indicate it in your questionnaire and we will do our best to partner you accordingly*** Check out the poppet along which will help you with any questions in creating your poppet or give you inspiration http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=205341.0. As we would like to keep this swap as fair as possible and not have anyone feel as if they sent more than their partner, please just keep the package to the one completed poppet, unless you discuss swapping more with your partner beforehand!

Things to keep in mind:
1. Flakers will not be tolerated.
2. This swap has a mandatory weekly check in. This means that you must post (at least) once a week in the discussion thread in order to keep both your partner and us, the organizers, in the loop as to how your poppet is progressing and in order to reassure us that you are still alive in the world of poppets. We will be keeping a record of such posts and if you have poor communication, it will be noted in your feedback.
3. If you have not heard from your partner for awhile or notice that your partner has not been active in Craftster for a while, and you are feeling concerned, PM us! Or if for any reason whatsoever you have concerns, feel free to PM us!
4. We will not approve anyone who has multiple feedbacks stating that they have poor communication, have not used a DC#, or is a consistent late sender.
5. Everyone is expected to send on time.  If you are going to be late, you must notify us ASAP. Those who are late and do NOT notify us, will receive negative feedback which will not be removed or corrected until the poppet is sent, we receive a DC# and the package is received.
6.  Posting photos in the gallery is a rule of this swap.  Failure to do so will result in a comment in your feedback. A big part of swapping is posting your goodies in the gallery and acknowledging your partner's work, plus, we want to see all of the new additions to the poppet family! If you do not have access to a camera, please contact your partner and ask if they can take pictures of both packages which they send/receive.
7. If you are an international swapper or sending internationally and are unable to get a DC# you must retain a copy of your shipping receipt. If for any reason your package goes missing and you do not have a copy of the receipt to provide us the organizers, you will have to resend to your partner.

When you send averyg a PM, please label it as Poppet Mini Swap Approval/ Sent/ Received/ etc.

If you want to participate, send this information to the averyg only labeled as “The Poppet Mini Swap Round 4: Approval”:

13  Poppet Mini Swap Round 4? in New Swap Theme Ideas by averyg on: May 24, 2012 06:02:21 AM
Hey!

I was just wondering if anyone would be interested in participating in a poppet swap. I have organized this swap for the past three years and would love to do it again!

The Poppet Mini Swap Round Three Galley: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=381282.msg4512152#msg4512152

Now, to help with any confusion which may arise... This swap is not about strictly swapping smaller sized poppets (unless that it, that is something you and your partner agree on), this swap is all about simply swapping one clothed poppet. Unlike the larger poppet swaps, this swap does not require you to swap any supplies or whatnot.

I was thinking that the sign-up could begin in the next week or so, crafters would have one month to complete their poppet and mail it to their new home (probably early-to-mid July).

14  Batik Owl Backpack in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by averyg on: February 22, 2012 07:46:08 AM
For some reason I have been in a crafting slump (seriously, I am closing in on a year soon) but when I saw this backpack on Ebay (http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-Thai-Large-Handmade-OWL-Patchwork-Backpack-Bag-/260937945458?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item3cc11d1172) I KNEW THAT I HAD TO MAKE IT! Au revoir crafting slump! Hello new inspiration! Wink

The body of the backpack was really quite easy to make, I just looked at the pictures of the Ebay bag and sketched out a pattern. I lined everything (including the feathers) with a thick felt (for some reason I haven't gotten the hang of sewing cotton batting) to make everything super sturdy. The hardest part I ran into was making the straps. I spent hours making cute little patchwork straps out of the batik fabric and as soon as I sewed them on the backpack and put it on they stretched a ridiculous amount and some seams started to pop :/ (because, as I mentioned, I lined everything with felt the backpack is quite heavy, I'd say at least 3-5 pounds.... Without anything in it! Oops.... Wink ). I then decided to use webbing for the straps. I need this baby to be able to hold quite a bit because I carry a ton of stuff around with me everyday at university (yes, I said university, I am totally going to be the most immature university student ever. And I am okay with that... Wink ).

Here it is laying flat:

I made a drawstring closure so that I can fit a lot of stuff in it (the mouth is just wide enough that my laptop will fit in it):

Here are the super duty straps I mentioned:

And here it is being worn (don't mind the messy background Wink ):

EDIT: Just in case anyone is wanting to make one of these backpacks I used:
-5 fat quarters of batik (I got them on a recent trip to the states from Jo-Anns Fabric and Craft Stores for $1.99/piece- seriously, all of you Americans are super lucky- Batik here in Canada runs at a minimum of $18.99/yard, not to mention the selection at Jo-Anns is AMAZING!)
-1/2 yard of fabric for the exterior of the bag (the light purple)
-1/2 yard for the interior lining of the bag (the light blue fabric with flowers on it)
-1 yard of felt (to interface everything)
-3 yards of webbing
-a handful of stuffing for the eyes/ eyebrows
-and a handful of backpack doohickies (like the thingers to adjust the strap length and whatnot)

C/C always welcome!

Well compared to the rest of these poppets, the one I made for Avery is kinda plain.  So you're not missing out on too much.  LOL.

NOOOOO!!! I hope I didn't make you think that! Sorry about the delay y'all! My sister decided to take off with the camera for the weekend. And I am hopeless when it comes to figuring out how to take pictures off of my cell phone camera.

Without further ado here is the poppet that amigurl55 sent me!

She is a mini me (as if I could get any mini-er than I already am)... Wink However, my hair IRL is nowhere near as cool as hers- maybe someday though! She is an archaeologist (which I am studying in uni) and her hat is to keep the sun off of her (you should hear all of the complaints that archaeologists have about the sun and sun stoke. Not fun! Wink ) and her bag is to keep all of her tools in!

Thanks again Roni and sorry for being slow in posting pics!

Again, everyone thank you so much for making this a great swap! I appreciate it like you wouldn't believe! Wink

Yep, like amigurl55 said, the poppet I made her is now up in the gallery. I also made him his own thread.

Here is a teaser of him:

17  Solid Snake from Metal Gear Poppet in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by averyg on: June 12, 2011 06:46:45 AM

When I received my partners questionnaire in the Poppet Mini Swap and saw that she had requested a poppet of Solid Snake from the Metal Gear video game for her BF my first response was, "Who the heck is Solid Snake?" So I went to find out who he is (me= totally unknowledgeable about anything video game related) and when I saw that (picture below) was Solid Snake, there may have been some minor major freakage on-age going on (ie. "How in the world am I going to make him?" and "What in the world have I gotten myself into?").

(image borrowed from: http://images.wikia.com/metalgear/images/1/1a/SolidSnake.png)

After a couple of days of looking at the picture of Snake some ideas started to form in my head. I originally thought that I would make his body as is and make him a jumpsuit out of grey-ush fabric, but then I remembered that I kinda still suck at making poppet clothing and if I were to make him clothing I know that it wouldn't have been as skin tight as it was called for/ you wouldn't be able to see his abs if I covered them up with clothing (and then what would the point on his having abs be- if you got 'em, flaunt 'em, I figure), therefore I decided to make his body out of the colour of his suit. From there I started to add all of the details out of felt- I kinda feel like I cheated on this- I hot glued them on. I did try to sew them but as I had stuffed him with quilting batting (it was the only thing I had on hand), his body parts, especially his legs were so rock solid that it was near impossible for me to shove a needle through them.

Here he is in all of his glory (I added pipecleaners in his fingers to make them poseable):

And in detail the front and back of him:

And then I set out to do something about his five o'clock shadow. I will admit that I was totally a nervous wreck in doing this, I was so scared that I would add too much paint, or in dumb places and I would have to restart his head (which I didn't really want to do seeing as I had already sewed each piece of hair on individually).

All in all I am super happy with him (and glad that my partner seems to be too), it was really hard to let him go (even though, as mentioned, I had no idea who this character was Wink ).

Okie dokie... So since amigurl55's camera ran out of batteries she has asked me to post a picture of the poppet I made her in the meanwhile. In her questionnaire amigurl55 specifically asked for a poppet of Solid Snake from Metal Gear. For those of you who are unfamiliar with video games (like myself) and are thinking, "Who in the world is Solid Snake?"... Well, here is Solid Snake:

(image borrowed from http://images.wikia.com/metalgear/images/1/1a/SolidSnake.png)

And this is my interpretation of Solid Snake (sorry for the somewhat cruddy picture):

He was a really big challenge to make, but I am super happy with how he turned out (and happy that amigurl55 seems to love him as much as I do Wink )!

20  Poppet Mini Swap Round Three? in New Swap Theme Ideas by averyg on: April 29, 2011 07:13:06 PM
Hey!

I was just wondering if anyone would be interested in participating in a poppet swap. I have organized this swap for the past two years and would love to do it again!

Unlike the larger poppet swaps, this swap does not require you to swap any supplies or whatnot.

I was thinking that the sign-up could begin after the "A Plethora of Poppets Swap" is finished, so around mid-May, crafters would have one month to craft, therefore the poppets would go out around mid-June.
