If you just want basic brown or blue you can look at Hobby Lobby if you have one near by and sometimes Joannes.

If you want a larger selection of colors I like http://www.suncatchereyes.net/index.html.

Size wise: most people go with 15mm or 18mm, though I think some went with slightly larger 20mm to give the poppet an anime like look.

As for the nose the pattern talks about using clay, but I like to glue a pony bead to the inside of the nose to help it keeps its shape.

Also I was told that if you put a pencil into the body and up into the neck it will help with the tipping neck syndrome many poppets get from their hair being too heavy.

Hmm, well let me know if you have any more questions and maybe I can help you out.

While people have used t-shirts I believe at it stretches too much. Felt I think, though people have used it, doesn't stretch enough. Alova suede (or other suede that don't fray) or craft velour works the best in my opinion.

Those look so good. I thought they were real food at first. Now I'm hungry.

Thanks, I'll definitely try that.
2935  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / My Second Try on: April 03, 2011 09:05:47 AM

This is the result of my second time trying to spin.  I needed grey dreads for a poppet I was making and from what I read hand spun singles work best, so I thought I'd go ahead and give it a shot. The roving is grey merino from indigocranefiber on etsy.

I had a lot harder time with spinning this than I did the first time I tried spinning. I think I really over drafted and so the fiber would keep breaking on me. Plus I kept hooking it wrong and when I'd give the spindle a spin it would unhook and go flying.

So I have a bit of fiber left over (because of my overdrafting problem) and was wondering if there was a way I could make it useable again. Is it possible to card it back together or should I just learn to felt?

BTW it worked out perfectly for the poppets hair.

What a nice skirt. The fabric is great.

And the doll looks great too.

Too bad I'll more than likely be moving during the middle of this. I've always thought these swaps looked super fun.

I haven't made a poppet since about October.  I did a private swap for 5 of them at the same time I did the poppet swap and another private swap for 1.  I was a little burnt out at that point, but now I am back and excited to make a few more.

And you dosuch cute ones. The dino one you made was really cool.

I'm not going to cut any out yet for this swap, because I want to know what my partner wants/ doesn't even know they want it yet, before I do.  I have, however, been working on one for a friend. I just spent the morning painting scars/tatto things all over his body, and spinning up some yarn for his hair. Not sure the yarn for the hair worked how I wanted it to though. Oh well.
