21  CRAFTSTER CRAFT CHALLENGES / Craftster Craft Challenge Theme Ideas, Etc. / What's Your Heritage on: April 14, 2016 07:18:35 AM
We have so many people from all over the world here on Craftster and people from many different cultures and heritages. I think it would be fun if people created a traditional craft from their culture/heritage and maybe put their own spin on it (maybe step away from traditional colors etc.).

April 11 Check In

I wish I could say I dream of color pallets but I don't. I used to think about it a lot more when I was planning out quilts or jewelry projects (or dreaming of owning a drum carder)  but since I am trying to finish what I have already started and not get new projects I don't.   Also, since I mostly make things for my kids I tend to stick to their favorite colors which doesn't leave much room for color experimentation.

I made this one too (only I was silly and forgot to take a picture). I love the colors you used!

29  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Re: Purple Rose Yarn on: April 06, 2016 06:43:27 PM
There is about 370 yards. But I don't really have any plans for it. Most of the yarn I spin, just sits around looking pretty.

I watched a video on You Tube a long time ago where someone spun little rose flowers into their yarn. I looked fun so I decided to try it. Two years after buying all the supplies, I finally got it done.

Here is the fiber after I prepped it. I took various shades of purple merino and some white faux cashmere and blended them on the blending board. The first half I dizzed off, and the second have a tried making hand pulled roving.

Next I took the first set and stripped it down to small pieces and threaded flowers onto it.  Then I spun a single from both sets. Unfortunately, with the first set I couldn't have all the small pieces completely separate and so they stuck back together. I had originally planned on having the flowers spaced evenly, but because of this they got closer together the further into the single I got.

And finally I plied them together.
