282  Ravi in Poppet Form in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by meleriffic on: April 07, 2011 09:07:02 AM
I made this poppet for a friend of mine. The poppet is based on one of my friend's characters from a D&D like game. I was also going off a picture of him that my friend created. You can see the picture here.

His hair is handspun yarn and he has two gold split rings for earrings.

He has runes/scars painted all over his body with the exception of his face and back.

The green wrap around his waist was hand embroidered in gold metalic thread in a scroll pattern. His manacle has real chain.

283  My Second Try in Spinning: Completed Projects by meleriffic on: April 03, 2011 09:05:47 AM

This is the result of my second time trying to spin.  I needed grey dreads for a poppet I was making and from what I read hand spun singles work best, so I thought I'd go ahead and give it a shot. The roving is grey merino from indigocranefiber on etsy.

I had a lot harder time with spinning this than I did the first time I tried spinning. I think I really over drafted and so the fiber would keep breaking on me. Plus I kept hooking it wrong and when I'd give the spindle a spin it would unhook and go flying.

So I have a bit of fiber left over (because of my overdrafting problem) and was wondering if there was a way I could make it useable again. Is it possible to card it back together or should I just learn to felt?

BTW it worked out perfectly for the poppets hair.

My nephew's 1st birthday is coming up in a few weeks, and as I was just getting around to sending a very late Christmas package (I know I know, bad aunt. I had everything before Christmas, it's just somehow I didn't get it sent out.) I thought I'd throw in a present for his birthday.

I got the idea off of etsy and thought I'd give it a try. It's pretty cute and I plan on making another one for my son in the next few months. Plus, as a bonus, it's all stuff I had lying around. Oh, yeah, it's a patchwork color cloth book.

Destashed scraps of fabric, batting, and trims, to make this patchwork color book for my nephew.

Destashed some yarn. I used up the better part of two skeins of black yarn on these. (There is also another plain black Mikey hat not shown).

Too funny about the garland. I love it though. Hmm something like that may have to go on to my list.

Here are some more of my hats that I've been making recently.

This one is for my husband. I hadn't planned on it, but he asked me for a one.

These were made for my children. We're taking them to Disney World for the first time next month and I wanted them to have cute hats. The Minnie Mouse is for my 4 year old daughter, the plain black for my 3 year old son, and the Mickey Shorts is for my 8 month old.(Not shown is another plain black one that I made for my nephew.)

I decided to make my daughter a Valentine hat as I had all the perfect colors of yarn just sitting around.

I've been on a hat making kick and decided to make a Valentine hat for my daughter. Mostly because she always appreciates everything I make her. (Whether it's good or not.)
