1  COOKING / Dessert / Sugar Mice on: December 23, 2009 02:00:06 PM
Cute, no?  Grin

They were incredibly easy, except for the ears which were very fiddly - there's a fine line between pliable and sticky mess!

Ingredients:
1 egg white
500g (ish) icing sugar

optional
colouring
flavouring (the pink & white are vanilla and the blue are peppermint)

1) Whisk the egg white so it's frothy
2) Add the sugar
3) mix it all up

I wanted to try out all the old food colouring in the cupboard.  Some of it's pretty crusty by now.  Most of it was liquid and i had to use rediculous amounts to get a bright colour (especially yellow) I tried mixing everything, i think the turquoise turned out nice Smiley

I've heard of gel colours, but my baking is living in the olden days at the moment.  I did get an electric hand whisk at christmas though Cheesy If anyone has any suggestions of where i can get hold of gel colours cheaply then that'd be great Smiley

ps. I'm amazed at all the sweetie recipes on here that i'd never heard of.  Especially peanut butter things.  I love peanut butter but it's fairly uncommon to combine it with sweet things like chocolate in the UK.

3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Cute as a button nintendo DS case on: January 07, 2009 02:50:08 PM
My mum got a DS for her birthday in late november and wanted a case for it.  I didn't find anything pretty in shops and i left it a bit late to order off t'internet so i made one despite not having done any sewing except turning up trousers (badly) since i was about 10.

It's grey felt lined with dark navy fleece with a bit of turquoise ribbon stuff. Oh, and lots of buttons!

The process went something like this...
1. wrap around DS to measure the size
2. sew on lots of buttons
3. sew around it inside out, with pocket piece in between the felt & fleece layers, turn right way out
4. sew up rest of it, add in bits to make DS pocket and sew on ribbon edging
5. attempt to iron the seams using hair straighteners because i don't own an iron (i'm a student, it's perfectly acceptable hehe!)

It wasn't a very precise project  Tongue

Here's the pictures
Finished outside of it

The messy insides

Finished inside of it

Hello, I'm a new person Smiley
I've been lurking around spying on people's creations like some kind of craft-pervert for about a year though!

I wrapped this up for a friend for christmas.  It has a post secret book & a little box of after eight mints in it. The buttons are left over from another project , the crocheted wool was lying around my bag of knitting stuff and my boyfriend's a bit of a scrooge so didn't let us get christmassy paper!

If i'd planned on showing the pic to anyone i'd have made that corner much neater, the stickyoutness of it annoys me whenever i look at it. Ah well!
