11  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Swap (Sign ups closed, Send out 5/28/08) on: April 14, 2008 08:54:41 AM
Okay, since a few of us have requested to keep the send out date the same, it will definitely still be 5/28/08.  That's a nice long crafting time, so this should be fun!

Please make sure to PM me to let me know whether you and your partner are doing 2 medium + 2 small OR 1 medium + 3 small (or another combo entirely if you want).  I just need to know!

Partners are now posted on the first page and you all should have received a PM from me with your partners' questionnaire!  We'll have a final decision soon on whether send out will be 5/28 or 5/21.

Quick Question ~ Is the size of crafted items in this swap based on time or size of the item? (I'm guessing it's not based on price) I have only done swaps with specific goals not size related (fill a box, postcards, etc) so I want to be sure before I start! Thanks

It can be based on either the time or the size of the item, your choice.  If you're concerned about ambiguity or anything like that in item size, definitely discuss it further with your partner.  As long as you are both on the same page it should be all good.

Also, I'm working on partners right now--should have them all assigned by tonight or tomorrow.

Okay, all 14 slots are full!  I'll assign partners as soon as I can, but here's my question.  Since it filled up so fast and we'll obviously be assigning partners before 4/23, would you like to push the send date up one week, to 5/21?  I won't do it unless everyone wants to, but I figured I'd ask, just because six weeks is a pretty long crafting time.

I added two more slots since there seems to be so much interest!  I still want to keep it pretty small, since it's my first time organizing.

This sounds like a fun challenge, and I love the long crafting time!!!

Yeah, I know for a lot of people (myself included) this will be right around exams and crunch time, and especially with having to be so specific about materials... I wanted to make sure everyone has enough time!

Details of swap:
In this swap, participants will craft using repurposed "waste" and rescued materials.  Recycling is definitely awesome, but reusing materials before they go off to the plant is even better!  Be creative with your materials--they're everywhere!  You can use trash/recyclables from your own house, second-hand goods purchased from thrift stores, found items, or dumpster-dived items/supplies*.  Basically, if you've rescued it from the trash (or the threat of the trash) to give it new life, it's a reasonable material to use.  If there are small parts of your project that you absolutely cannot find materials for without using new ones, just make sure it's really sparingly.  I know it can be hard for stuff like paint, thread, etc... just use your best judgment!

Then, along with your crafted items, make sure you tell your partner the story of where you got your materials.  It will be fun to see what waste we've saved from the landfills!

*I realize not everyone is cool with dumpstering, so if you'd prefer that your partner did not use dumpstered items, you can note that in the questionnaire.  Also, if you are dumpstering for supplies, I am going to assume that you know what you are doing, you know the laws in your area regarding dumpster diving, you are being safe while doing it, and you are not using items that are dirty/potentially dangerous in any way.

For this swap, you can decide with your partner whether you would like to do 2 medium and 2 small items OR 1 medium and 3 small items. Please decide with your partner which you would like beforehand. If you decide to do more, that's fine, just please let me know via PM.

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.

After you send out, please make sure you send your DC# to me and your partner.  And please try to post photos in the gallery shortly after you receive!

Since there was such a big interest, I added two more spots.  I'd like to try to keep the swap small just because it's my first time organizing, but I'm glad people are so excited about recycling!
