31  Re: 2016 Annual DeStash-Along in Craftalongs by quaggy on: February 14, 2016 08:55:35 PM
Loving the pillow and the addition of the seed beads in your embroidery.

I have been spending my free time sewing and have managed to make a woodland quilt  for a swap partner, all from stash,  and some wonky house blocks for myself a quilt.

More photos of this one on the quilting finished project board.

And here is the beginning to my wonky house quilt. 10 blocks made and will get some more from a swap I am in right now.

32  Woodland Creature Quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by quaggy on: February 14, 2016 08:42:54 PM
I made this quilt for my partner in the woodland creature swap.  I was able to use all stash and it was a fun quilt to make.  Each square is cut and sewn to the batting.  I used warm and natural.  Win Win since I had saved all my scraps of warms and natural from cutting out other quilts.  The blocks are quilted with random designs.  Next I traced all of the pieces onto my fusible web and cut them slightly larger.  After ironing them onto my fabric it was easy to cut the pieces out with minimal fabric waste.  I used a straight stitch to sew them on.  Next came the layout and sewing the top together.  I used a piece of fleece for the backing and after getting it all pinned sewed around each block to quilt the top to the backing.  I will use this method and pattern again it was so fun to make.

Here is a picture of what I am looking for in my wonky house block.  Any wonky house will do.  I topstitched this one with coats and Clark top stitch thread....it just makes the top stitching stick out a little more but anyone doing my blocks can use regular thread if they want to

36  Birthday Stocking in Quilting: Completed Projects by quaggy on: January 24, 2016 07:30:04 AM
Recently in the Christmas Stocking swap my partner wanted me to craft a birthday stocking.....this was a fun task.  I wanted to make it personal but also flexible to start a family tradition.  Digging through my stash I found some alphabet buttons, next on to my magazines where I remembered a pattern for a birthday banner.  Oh what the heck make the banner too for a table display.  The flag banner holds the individual name letter buttons.  I used safety pins and sent extra letters so the name can be changed out.  In my photo the name is spelled wrong but a quick switch fixed that problem.

The banner fits on a metal table frame for display.....I did not put the frame together but sent it along.  Hoping to be partnered with her again  or do some more personal swaps, so I can make some seasonal banners to send to fit the frame.

This was a fun challenge and I was super happy with the results!

My blocks arrived from alwaysinmyroom today.....I love the fabrics they go great with the rest of my blocks.

Here are all my block from my partners (12) plus the extra 8 that I made........I think I need 4 more full blocks an then I need 12  1/2 blocks, only 3 strips wide so I can add 1/2 block to each side.

I laid them out 2 different ways so far....

Definitely do not like the placement of the 2nd top block in this photo

39  Re: 2016 Annual DeStash-Along in Craftalongs by quaggy on: January 19, 2016 07:43:30 PM
I really need to destash this year.....I could probably never leave the house and not run out of supplies.   Yes I have been hoarding a very long time.  First up some things that I have made from my stash so far this year!

Joined the scrappy trip around the world quilt block swap and sent to 3 partners 4 blocks each here are the results.

I decided these were so fun and I would need some to add to the blocks that my partners send to me......so back to my fabric and 8 blocks for me!

A crafty friend asked me to do a personal swap she needed a pillow with her sons name on it for a birthday gift.....lucky me star wars was a possible theme and I just happened to be hoarding some star wars fabric.  I did have to buy the 24 inch pillow insert as I have no good place to store those, but yea me got rid of some fabric........lol you will see later in  my post what I mean.

As I was digging through some of my fabric I found this cute....yep that is why I bought it a few years back......construction truck panel.  The other supervisor at work has a grandson who is 4 and loves these.....so much that his mom, dad, grandma, grandpa and uncle have each been officially named one of these construction vehicles by him.  I dug a little more and came up with some more fabric that went really good with the panel and made him a quilt.

I even managed to use the big left over chunk of one piece on the back.

I was feeling pretty good since we are only 19 days into the new year until I decided to share 3 items from my stash........a little embarrassed...but this is a support group right? Grin

Here is my thread stash

In the top picture the two top right containers flip over and this is the other side.

Here's my embroidery floss collection......carded and in numerical order....all is DMC except the one box to the left is an assortment of all types of threads.

and a major obsession.....buttons.... Tongue  Right up there with fabric!

Here is a close up

These 2 are all carded buttons

Loose buttons by color

Then not in the pictures are a lot of themed buttons like fish, cupcakes, cars, halloween, Christmas etc.

Yes I am a collector, and hoarder of craft supplies....I have a weakness for fabric, buttons and thread among a few other things.  They are my drugs to reduce stress, stay active and brighten someone's day........ My craft room is a happy place!
