11  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Assorted quilted goodies on: January 22, 2011 04:04:44 PM
I've become terribly bad about uploading my projects, so I'm going to chuck all three of these into one post.  The first is a paper pieced wall hanging that I worked on in a class back in August (!).  Can you spot my goof? Wink

Close up of the quilting

The back

hanging on my purple wall Smiley

Next is a small mug rug I made up about two weeks ago to a) get prepared for the swap, yay! b) to do some sewing and c) to kill some boredom.  I just threw it together, please don't judge me :O

And finally, I have a very close friend who was dealing with some bureaucratic mess the other week, and I (half-jokingly) offered him a quilted goodie to make it better.  So while he was out of town on MLK weekend I put this together for him.  I'm quite proud of the back, my quilting stitching is quite straight Cheesy

The wrinkly looking bits in the blue borders are decorative stitching in the quilting thread, which is very close to the blue color.

Whew!  Hope you enjoyed the 3 month tour of my fabric follies; feel free to ask questions, make comments, or....anything else you can think of Smiley
12  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Paul's Quilt on: January 22, 2011 03:56:46 PM
I have deduced, both in life and by reading the awesome things people on here make for their friends, families, etc; that far too many people have cancer nowadays.  This is a quilt for one of them.

Paul is a high school band director for/with whom I have been working over the last 3 years.  He's been a cancer patient for over 5 years, starting with a sarcoma and now with a secondary bone/blood cancer.  This past year things became bad enough to warrant surgery.  Since I knew he'd be having 2 surgeries, I wanted to make him a quilt to lay around under while stuck at home.  The first was before Thanksgiving, and he was only in the hospital about 3 days; the 2nd was December 20th, when he had five (!!) organs removed- and went home Christmas day Cheesy  He's doing well now, other than going stir crazy!  I managed to get this to him as he was recovering at home after the first go round.

That's on a full bed, it's about 4x6 feet.  Made of uninspiring squares Smiley

And the obligatory cat approval Wink

He very much seemed to like it, and I hope it's given him a good way to keep some music nearby even when he's not teaching Smiley

I made a practice today as well Smiley  Kind of fail, but it was fun practice Smiley

I just got a phone call from my admins at work. We've no school again tomorrow, making it Day 4 of Snowcation '11. I plan to make my practice mug rug for myself to help keep my brain occupied. I'm going nuts here.

Oh my goodness, good luck!!!  We had day three today, 2 hour delay tomorrow.  Hope it will be wonderfully crafty Smiley

I LOVE the quilt!  The colors and design are awesome!  Would you be willing to share a link to the instructions?  I'm facing my third day of being out for snow and ice and am about to go stir crazy Wink
