7  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Re: Why are you Vegetarian/Vegan? on: April 24, 2009 11:01:13 AM
What an interesting series of postings.  There are so many young passionate vegetarians & vegans out there.  I wanted to reply to represent those of us with some age.  Various times in my life I have tried vegetarianism but it never lasted.  (I grew up eating meat and if I am really honest, I enjoyed the taste.)

Something happened this year.  I decided to give up meat/poultry for Lent this year.  I fully expected to eat lamb on Easter Sunday but I couldn't go back to eating meat of any kind.  During Lent I read The Face on Your Plate by Masson.  There wasn't anything particularly new but the writing was compelling.

For me, I think it will be a gradual process.  I'm still eating fish (wild caught only).  But I can see myself letting that go.  I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to make the step to being vegan.  However, you never know.  Kiss
8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Quilting Fabric for Clothes? on: April 21, 2009 05:35:31 AM
I've used quilting fabric for clothing.  I have learned that it is best to wash & dry the new fabric before using it.  Some quilters don't bother but if I am making clothing, I want to be able to wash & dry without worrying about shrinkage.  Have fun!  Grin

Great pattern.  I'm just finishing an afghan.  I'll check my stash.  This will be fun.  Grin
10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Bamboo placemat purse on: April 14, 2009 05:50:46 AM
Hmmm... I have some old bamboo placements from the $ store plus purse handles purchased years ago just gathering dust.  There are so many great ideas from all you crafters, I don't know where to begin.   Wink
