1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / old dressing gown = new upcycled necklace on: September 30, 2009 11:14:49 AM
Ok this was a first try at an idea I had last night.  I decided to make hoops out of recycled material - then sewed them together.  I then added recycled embellishments.  It's not perfect and I'm not even sure if it's finished yet - so let's call it a work in progress Smiley

Any feedback would be greatfully received (ps: sorry for the poor quality photo - I had to use my Blackberry because my husband has my camera).

2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / HELP! How can I save this bag? on: September 22, 2009 10:57:55 PM
Ok - I tried to make it and it failed.  I bought my records and cut my material.  However the bag was too small for the LP and too large for the single.  So I decided to add the single anyway - and sew around it (which still needs finishing) but it looks really awful.  I love the actual bag itself - but how can I save what I've already done around the record?  Any ideas gratefully received.

If possible I'd like to finish it off with upcycled items rather than having to go and buy something new!

3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Waterproofing paper to make bags etc. on: September 21, 2009 05:49:06 AM
Hi
I should think this topic has been discussed before however I couldn't find it when searching.  So I hope no-one minds me asking again.
I'd like to make a purse using some paper products however I need to obviously strengthen it and make it as waterproof as possible.  I don't really want to laminate as that kind of negates the whole point of upcycling things - but is there some sort of interfacing that could work?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

4  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Crazy quilting - what have I got myself into? on: September 20, 2009 05:30:43 PM
I've been creating this 'crazy' quilt for a while now.  It's not exactly brilliant but I'm quite liking the way some of it's coming together.  What would you do with it?  And please don't say 'chuck it in the bin!' Smiley

I'd really like some tips on making it look better.  I really am quite useless at embroidery so I was wondering what else people recommend.

Also I'd like to start to create a proper quilt for our King Size bed - how do I start? What's the best pattern to start with?
Any advice would be greatly received.  I intend to make it almost entirely out of recycled/ repurposed material.
5  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Asthma pumps on: September 20, 2009 03:59:27 PM
I'm chronically asthmatic and tend to get through approximately 2-3 pumps a month - these are either the blue ones or my purple ones.  They're different sizes and obviously I can't do anything with the actual medication.  However - does anyone have an idea for what I can do with the actual plastic pump? I hate throwing them out - they seem perfect for something - the problem is I can't work out what!
6  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Ooookies - my first upcycled toys on: September 20, 2009 03:16:25 PM
Well, these are Ooookies, made by me because I didn't know what else to try and make!
They're made out of t-shirts and the velvety ones are made from an upcycled skirt I got from a charity shop.  There are another three hidden in the house - they're hard to get together because they don't like the light and tend to hide in corners.  We have many corners for them to hide in.

Can now post photos ... wheee ... so here they are:

I'm not posting the others as they need rotating and they're not rotating properly on this.
I'd really appreciate some feedback on my first attempt.

Design and conception purely my own Smiley
Well ... I like them! hee hee
