231  Help me plan my wedding! in Weddings and Bridal Showers by katara on: December 20, 2009 11:23:04 PM

I'm planning to get married on April 10th, 2010 and I need some help and inspiration to make it a truly memorable day.
We'll be getting married in a rather plain looking church. We still don't have a reception venue (due to the high costs of all the venues we've looked at) and the church doesn't have a hall. The only alternative we've managed to come up with is renting a school hall or a thatched gazebo at a school.

We have a very limited budged, R 10 500 which converts to about US$ 1470 (With about R11 500 one can buy 300 McDonald's Big Mac meals). My fiance's parents have contributed financially to our wedding as well so we know have R20 000!  Grin

A bit about us:
- I am 28 and he is 31
- We both prefer a more informal reception
- We have already purchased wedding rings
- We both like unusual things (not the strict conventional)
- He wants me to get married in white (I prefer a bit more spunk)
- I would however like a traditional wedding cake but he doesn't like fruit cake
- We want our guests to have a good time
- I'll most probably be making my own wedding dress
- I thought of making an infinity dress for my bride's maid
- We thought of having an afternoon wedding
- I thought of making coffee filter roses for the corsages
- I live in South Africa
- My favorite colors: green, blue

I truly need a 'wedding planner'. If you think you could help me with ideas, color schemes, invites, etc. I would truly appreciate it! Please feel free to ask questions!

232  Katara's Wedding Thread in Weddings and Bridal Showers by katara on: December 08, 2009 04:31:30 AM
I got engaged on the 3rd of July 2009 and my fiance and I have set our wedding date for 10 April 2010. We have a very limited budget so I can't be too extravagant. I've been surfing the net and various craft sites for some ideas and inspiration.

I started out making my own wedding invitations, and after making 15, I gave up. The design was overly ambitious and it was too time consuming. I went to the stationery shop to buy supplies to make something simpler when I spotted these invites, which I liked, and seeing that I had already purchased silver envelopes for the original invites, I couldn't resist!

I also found this on the Martha Stewart site

and decided to give it a bash!

I initially bought white tissue paper, but bought too little. I went to several stores to purchase more white tissue paper but nobody had white so I had to settle for cream. Must say the white and cream together worked extremely well! Here is my attempt - a wreath in progress (I still need to add ribbon to the inner and outer circles). I've made 9 so far, still need to make 3 more.

My attempt:

UPDATE: 12/11/2009
I finished making all the wreaths. I painted the inner and outer circles with a light cream paint instead of using ribbon. All I need to do know is add loops so the wreaths can be hung.

Here is a pic of one of the wreaths I made - it's still a work in progress (I still need to add ribbon to the inner and outer circles)

and here are the invites I bought:

This thread is super cool! My fiance and I have set our wedding date for 10 April 2010 - and this date is approaching fast!
We still haven't found a suitable reception venue yet, but hope to get married in my fiance's church.

I'm busy making some pew decorations for the church and I've started sewing my own wedding dress. I bought some tissue paper and am aiming to make something like this:

I need about 12 wreaths - so that's about 240 paper flowers.

To do (for the moment):
Make ring pillow
Sew garter
Design invites
Make guest book
