1  Oregon / Oregon: Northwest / Portland, OR: For the Love of Fiber Felt Class, October 12th 2008 on: September 24, 2008 08:33:33 AM
Hello Craftster friends!

This class is an excellent starting point to the basics of wet felting, the ancient technique of creating a durable and versatile wool textile by hand.

Through this hands-on class we will go through the many varieties and types of wool fibers suitable for wet felting. We will also play with alternative fibers (such as silks, vegetable, and animal fibers) plus a wide variety of fun treatments to be used in conjunction with your basic wet felting knowledge.

For more information and to register online see this link: http://diylounge.com/classlist.php?id=287

This should be a really fun class. I hope to see you there!

2  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Discussion and Questions / Felting & styrofoam on: March 23, 2007 10:04:49 AM
Hi Everyone-
I just had a quick inquiry about needle felting (or maybe even wet felting!?) on styrofoam. using styrofoam as the base to re-use, and cut down on wool.
I know GraceO has done the marvelous sculpture on a styrofoam head,
I am wondering if anyone has done smaller pieces?

And if there are any suggestions, advice, brainstorming that can be shared with me about it.

I fear it will fall apart into bits if needled too much. eep. eck.

Thanks!!!
xo
3  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Wooly Booly's - felt and wool plushies on: February 06, 2007 09:07:05 AM
Hi everyone- heeheehee. I made my first felt plushies! yay! lots of fun- I wanna make more.
Made out of some scrap wool felt, gorgeous (vintage) wool tweed, leather ears, embroidered faces with (vintage) buttons,
stuffed with scrap wool, felt, and lavender buds (so they smell like lavender!)
okay Gracie -I promise I'm getting there..They are relevant.....heehee...

AND Needle felted toes, bellies, tails and hair!! Grin
Weeeeeeee!!! I call them Wooly Booly's (If you can believe that that was the classic song playing on my stereo just as I was trying to think of a name! how fortunate!hahah!)

They are brother and sister. Twins separated at birth. Brother Booly (on the left) was raised in Jamaica and Sister Booly grew up to be a dance star in France.
lol.

Check out more pics in my flickr photos. http://www.flickr.com/photos/tanisalexis/
I hope you like 'em as much as I do. I dont know if I wanna sell these babies- They might just stay here and keep me company.  Cheesy Thanks so much for looking.
4  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Felt felt felt- ! New pics on page 2 on: January 25, 2007 09:26:32 AM
Hi everyone- Been awhile since I posted anything new- so I got off my lazy bum and uploaded some new pics. It was a bonus because it was sunny yesterday!  Grin

Been ordering lots of new fibres for some big consignment orders I am filling and hope this will also go to some classes I'll be teaching here in Vancouver in March and April too. I can't wait- I am pretty excited...but then again- that could be nerves. hahahaha!

So, some fibre 'porn'  Wink for you to look at- I got a gorgeous hand-dyed lot from feltstudiouk, ah-! I am her BIGGEST fan!  Grin

and a shipment from Dreamspin Fibres in Ontario-

SLURP!!!! I LOVE it all- I grabbed lots of superfine merino-18.5 microns!! it feels just like clouds! I can't wait to see what it looks like felted. Like a suede finish they say.  Grin
The turquiose/brown/black in the bottom left corner is dyed silk laps. Never used them before but should be TONS of fun in Wet Felt.

and I did make something for myself- FINALLY! lol. Been so busy around here- I needed to stop. and take care of my needs.  Wink Cold here on the water in January, so I made a felted sash- or belt tie. I can wear it over jeans/pants and tie it on my hip. Super cosy and warm.
For the tie, I used my favourite handspun that I've managed to ply so far. So I am happy, and will probably make more in February- after the storm clears in my inbox.  Wink
Hope you like-I saved some of my fave colourway from feltstudiouk for this project. Of course!  Grin

5  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Discussion and Questions / Man Felt on: November 24, 2006 01:14:08 PM
Hiya Felters-
I have the annual situation of wondering what it is I can make for the ol'man for Xmas-AGAIN!! lol.  Tongue sigh...I guess some things never change... Grin
I wanted to see if you all could help me come up with felty, Man-related projects, ideas and items for all the special men on our wish lists that deserve to be warm and fuzzy too.  Wink

Here's my list so far:
-Manly cuffs, big n' chunky.

-Pocketed notebooks/organizers. I made one for the DH last year, and he still uses it- Good for that unorganized guy! Cheesy

-Warm hat! I wish my skills and studio were advanced enough to make him a big cowboy style hat..lol.

-Mittens for scraping the car. (used sweaters are great for this too)

-Socks! I want to make sock/slippers. without the ultra bulk that most Felting tutes provide...any suggestions??

-Scarves- with many type colours. Wink lol.

Hmmmm.... I cant stop thinking of warm winter wear I guess,  Roll Eyes
I am hoping you can all help come up with some super unique and new ideas here. Thanks so much everyone! Smiley
6  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / felted sashes n' scarves! More links on pg2 --and 3!!!! on: October 31, 2006 04:04:58 PM
It's been awhile since I posted anything, and I have been really inspired by the colder temperatures again. Hmm. it will almost be a year since I picked up my first felting project soon...and I am still really intrigued by the seemingly limitlessness (is that even a word?oh well) of fibre as a medium. I keep getting so inspired by all of you and I want to say thank you for the encouragement, the support, the inspiration, choke! gawsh! I'm getting softy.  Grin
Happy Halloween everyone. Waiting for sunset to turn off all my lights and get scared in the dark. haha. boo!

here's the latest 'one-off' I was inspired to try to combine yarn with blobs of felt. and ended up with a long twisty neck tie, sash thingie. I like versatility. would you guys wear this? or is it too ary farty? I'm not sure. It does look like I am taking it all too seriously. haha

And this is what I've felted in the last 2 days. sorry the pics are so small. It's that dino camera of mine again.  Tongue
A combo of FABULOUS dyed roving from the gorgeous Caedara and a mix of other rovings.. the left side of the pics is the fronts and the right side is the backside of them. I think I may either turn them into neck collar things/small scarves, (so warm and cozy) or add ribbons or yarn and make sorta hip sash things.
Ack! I keep saying 'things' to describe.. help me out, what do you think?
have a spooky eve tonite.  Wink
7  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Etsy Street Teams - Felting Team?? on: September 09, 2006 09:40:35 AM
Hi Kiddos-
I've posted this on the felting boards originally because that's where I will catch the eyes of my lovely fibre friends-and now here- coz this is where it belongs. Smiley
I had a small brainwave after recieving a message from Matt at Etsy about the Street Teams Profiles Page, and I KNOW this isn't etsy, but thought I would have better success at posting in here than anywhere else. The street team profiles pages are here- and they are starting to look really spiffy. http://team.etsy.com/profilest

So, I know the felting mods have etsy shops and a few others do.. Matt has mentioned that there isnt any reason we cannot start street teams not only based on geographical location but also under themes or the like. Like the "Dark Arts Team" that has started. http://team.etsy.com/profilest/dark.shtml
I wonder if there is interest in us getting together and setting up a page in the street teams pofiles page under Handmade Felt or even Fibre Arts. It might be a great new venue to help educate and spread the word about the resurgence of this type of fibre art. While helping to promote our stores/wares and create another great selling community.
I am already in contact with Matt about another Street Team I've been working on (Canada) and while I am there, I could possibly set up another if there is anyone who is interested in signing up, signing on, taking part......

Or this could just be a flash in the pan and its silly? I dunno- I am all about the promotion of you beautiful fibre freaks.    so let me know.
thanks!

9  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / I have the Coolest Mum EVER!! on: August 10, 2006 02:42:32 PM
Hi felters-
I've just been amazed and wowed by the most awesome and inspiring package from my mum ever! She came to visit in April and I taught her a quick basic lesson in needle felting. As the mega-craft queen herself- she became quickly addicted. Grin  I haven't had a chance to see any of her big creations since we were together this past spring, so I am absolutely floored and SO PROUD of my Mums quick learning, and amazing creative penache.
These are some of the things she's sent to me to add to or collaborate with. fun!  Grin
Flowers  Grin !!!

'Jungle Bird'

'Marbled Buddha'

'Navajo Girl'

and the BEST present to me EVER- a funky frog in a thong!!  Grin Grin Cheesy Cheesy

I have to come up with a good name for her. any ideas???

10  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Felted Flowers & birds- NEW pics on PAGE 2!! on: August 04, 2006 10:57:52 AM
Heyhey - here's photos of my latest batch of felted friends. I mentioned on another thread that I was working on incorporating feathers into needle felting and I've achieved success!  Smiley Most of the flowers will become pins, but I also have another secret idea for them as well. The bird also has feathers and I've since added wensleydale curls to its tail and its looking good. Also notice the amazing multi-colours of roving in some of the flowers thanks to the very amazing and talented Caedara and her very special order of hand-dyed wool for me.  Kiss
Hope you like-even though this ancient digital camera is of NO use for a decent photo... remind me to ask santa for a really good digital camera for xmas.  Tongue  Grin in no particular order:
