1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Watermelon Hoopla on: June 07, 2015 05:06:05 AM
I like doing hooplas by layering & stitching various colors of felt -- I think because it reminds me of paper piecing in scrapbooking!!

2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Wiseacre's Wizarding Equipment Shop Hoopla on: February 13, 2015 07:34:03 PM
Created this in a 2 inch hoop for chrmisha in the I love Harry Potter - OTHPT Valentine Swap long with 3 other small hoops.  This is based of a favorite store!  I had to google the shop to see its sign/logo and go from there.   The stars & name are in sparkly thread (which I hate using!)...

3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Tree Carving Hoopla on: February 13, 2015 07:29:51 PM
This is in a 2 inch hoop.  I made this (and 3 more) for chrmisha in the I Love Harry Potter - OTHPT Valentines Swap.

I messaged chrmisha about favorite HP couple...she went "old school" with Lily and Snape.  I can imagine Snape (especially when he was young) carving his & Lily's initials in a tree...possibly even the whomping willow??

4  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Weasley Burrow Hoopla Set on: February 13, 2015 07:27:17 PM
These are each in a 2 inch hoop.  I made these (and 2 more) for chrmisha in the I Love Harry Potter - OTHPT Valentines Swap.

Here is the burrow.  I based it off the drawing in one of the Harry Potter books.  I added the tree and some flowers to have a more colors than just various shades of brown.

The companion to the Burrow is Ron's quote about his house: "It's not much, but it's home."  I used the same colors as the other hoop so they would look good together.

5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Hit Like a Girl Hoopla & Drumstick Holder on: February 10, 2015 02:30:22 PM
I was recently paired with stillatthetop in the Box of Color Swap.  She chose purple.  She said she would like a music themed hoopla.  I got out of her that she was a drummer. This is an 8 inch hoop (I think!).  The background is a purple bandana.  The fist is from an image I found via Google.  It is felt.  I made it separate from the background and then stitched it on.  The letters are iron on embroidered letters!  The stick holder is bandana fabric with a felt lining.  I added the pink nail and bows to add to the girl-y-ness of it all.

6  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Dark Mark Hoopla on: December 21, 2014 05:31:40 PM
I made this for a Harry Potter swap (obviously?)...It is variegated green DMC in a weird type of chain stitch (or something similar).  I used a black bandana for the fabric.  It is maybe 8-10 inches?

I found a drawing of the Dark Mark from the books on-line to base this off of.  I also added the spell to cast the Dark Mark on the side.

7  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Santa Belly Hoopla on: December 21, 2014 05:27:02 PM
This was made for Helena Puck in the 12 days of Christmas swap.  It is BIG (11-12 inch hoop!).  The red is a bandana.  The black belt is felt.  The gold buckle is "felt" but it is all glittery.  The white is a fun fur trim I found.  I used embroidery thread and a whip stitch to attach everything.

8  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Snowflake Hoopla on: December 21, 2014 05:25:05 PM
I made this hoopla for Helena Puck in the 12 days of Christmas swap.  It is light blue felt in a small, 3-4 inch hoop, and shimmery white embroidery thread.  I free handed all of it.

9  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Lotus Hoopla on: December 21, 2014 05:23:19 PM
I made this for gingerpeachy in the Make a Friend swap.  It is all felt and embroidery thread.  The upper edges of the petals & leaves are not sewn down to make it look more dimensional.  This is a small, 3-4 inch hoop.

10  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Panda Hoopla! on: December 21, 2014 05:20:41 PM
I made this for gingerpeachy in the Make a Friend swap.  It is BIG (like an 11-12 inch hoop!).  The background is a bandana!  I free cut the panda pieces and sewed them together with a whip stitch then sewed the entire thing onto the background.
