71  Re: Decked Out for Deathly Hallows Part II GALLERY! in The Swap Gallery by dinkime on: July 07, 2011 12:09:59 PM
icebyrd67 received on tuesday -- i hope she has some better pics to share, but for now i will show some of what i sent...
gred & forge -- a pair of twin owls

shrinky dink earrings -- fawkes & gryffindor crest

beaded radish earrings

i also sent a jar mix for butterbeer cookies Smiley

it was all from molly weasley

Dear Julie,
What a whirlwind of activity at the Weasley house this summer!  Even with the insanity that we always have here, we wanted to make sure you had a wonderful package to remember our family by in celebration of the latest Harry Potter movie (he is such a nice young man!).
First, my twin boys, Fred & George, created some magical friends for you at their joke shop, Weasleys Wizarding Wheezes.  I never could have imagined how well they would do!! The names of your new friends are Gred & Forge.  You can tell which is which by their scarves (like my sweaters for the boys each Christmas), so I would suggest they wear them at all times.  They have been packaged in an exclusive WWW window bag for safe travels.
Next, my youngest child and only daughter, Ginny, used her muggle jewelry making skills to make you a small earring collection.  Now, two pairs used the interesting muggle craft of shrinky dinks (I let Ginny use her magic wand to shrink them).  One pair is in memorial of Albus Dumbledore and his dear pet phoenix, Fawkes.  Another pair is to show house spirit for Gryffindor.  The last pair she crated to honor her friend Luna Lovegood, who lives just round the bend from us..  My son Ronald and his dear friend Hermione (I think they are perfect for each other) helped decorate a small storage box for Ginnys creations..
Last, but not least, is a special treat I made for you!  You will, however, have to do some work to enjoy it as I was not sure how food items would do in the muggle post.  It is a jar mix for butterbeer cookies my own recipe!  A few small additions and you will be on your way to some delicious treats for the movie.
                  Love and best wishes,
                  Molly Weasley

74  Canvas of Creativity in CHALLENGE 64 ENTRIES by dinkime on: July 04, 2011 02:13:01 PM

this is my finished project from a class i took with one of the king's of the mixed media world - Tim Holtz - http://www.timholtz.typepad.com/ - called "Creative Blocks" -- we all started with the same materials, but were able to take it our own ways -- for example, i made my canvas vertical versus horizontal.  i also flipped one of my mini canvases to make a "shadow box"...color choices, paper choices, etc, were all mine Smiley  it was cool to see what others did with the same things and how different they all ended up

me with the master

some of the steps we took: layout, papering the squares & canvases, shadowing the squares by smudging pencil lines, attaching the mini canvases, inking away (if you know tim, you know ink!), coating the entire project in beeswax, adding fun embellishments...whew!  it was a 4 hour class & i finished mine the following weekend -- and mine is not near as embellished as it could have been!!!

and at the end, i was very inky & painty

materials used:
6x12 canvas
3 mini canvases
dictionary paper
scrapbook paper
tissue tape
metal embellishments
soft lead pencil
screw eyes
dangle-y fun stuff
frozen charlotte doll (ceramic)
wooden topper
molded heart

77  J & T Challenge 3: Erised Earrings! in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by dinkime on: April 06, 2011 07:44:53 PM
I was recently in the OTHPT2 swap -- and I made a series of 4 pairs of earrings inspired by the Harry Potter series!  (Then I saw a cool necklace in new posts & it led me to this challenge -- how awesome!)...all were in a tiny wooden box that i decoupaged with pages from the first Harry Potter book (the chapter about the mirror of erided)...i also included a letter in my package from erised earrings -- a wizarding world store that specializes in earrings to meet your every desire Smiley

pair 1: floo powder: darice "jar" with tiny glass beads & shrinky dink tags

pair 2:norbert(a): shrinky dink

the other 2 i am not "entering" -- one is a pair of radish earrings using a pattern here on craftster, and the other pair was just frog charms from hobby lobby linked onto the hook...

here are the close-ups i did of the earrings Smiley
trevor -- charm from hobby lobby:

floo powder -- mini bottle by darice, beads, shrinky dink tag:

& norbert(a) -- shrinky dink that i traced from book 1:

(my radish picture is blurry)

the letter says (in hogwarts wizard font):
Dear Meg,
As proprietor of Erised Earrings, I hope this parcel finds you well.  A few of my wayward Hogwarts alum (to use the phrase very loosely) have asked that I send you a small selection to commemorate your love for our dear wizarding world.

Argus Filch has asked me to send you the floo powder earrings as a reminder to, Get out!  Aberforth Dumbledore requested the radish earrings in honor of Luna Lovegood and the toad earrings in honor of Neville Longbottom both of whom he felt great fondness for.  Lastly, Rubeus Hagrid, Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts, wanted you to forever have his dragon baby, Norbert(a), emblazoned on a pair for you to wear when the mood strikes.

Best wishes in the muggle world.
