21  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Mother's Day / Grandma's picture--from black and white to colorful on: May 26, 2012 04:35:23 PM
As a (late!) Mothers Day gift for my mom, I wanted to do something in memory of her mom, so I took an old black and white photo of my grandma, printed it on a fabric sheet, and jazzed it up a bit with beads, fabric, and paint. I used make-up for the skin, which worked surprisingly well. I had to lighten the original photo a bit though, so I wasn't painting over dark grey for the skin.

I used metallic thread for the necklace and bracelet, and seed beads for her earrings and bodice detail, and pressed flowers for her flower arrangement. I might've gone overboard a little with the skirt, but she can trim it if she wants to :p

I havent mailed it to my mom yet, but Im super excited for her to get it!  Im also excited to try adding fabric and colorful details to other old pics.

Thanks for looking--c&c welcome Smiley

And the original pic:

Oh that's a good idea, I'll have to figure out how to add that Smiley
25  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Felt color book for my baby on: August 08, 2011 07:18:46 PM
Inspired by all the awesome felt books on Craftster, I wanted to make a felt book of colors for our new baby, with rhyming couplets. I asked for my husband's input, and suddenly it had to have a medieval theme Wink So, we put our heads together and came up with this:

I wasn't up to sewing tiny felt details, so I took the lazy way out and used fabric pastels on white fabric, and sewed it onto felt pages.
We finished it right before her birth, and she's four months old now. No word yet on whether or not she likes it :p

Thanks for looking! Smiley
26  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Screen Printing: Completed Projects / Cool uncle shirt for my bro on: August 08, 2011 07:06:00 PM
A couple Christmases ago, my brother gave my grandparents matching shirts that said something along the lines of what cool grandparents they are, and we have a pic of my grandparents proudly modeling them--one of the last pics I got of them before my Grandma passed away...so when I got pregnant, I wanted to make my brother something about being an uncle, and I thought back to those shirts. I decided to make a similar shirt about how he's a cool uncle Smiley

Based on this old pic of him doing something weird in college: :p

I think he liked it, although I'm not sure he wears it :p My only regret is that I wish I had written a more clever text to go with it--it sounds so lackluster :p

Thanks for looking! Smiley

I love how simple and elegant they are, and how you repurposed other items Smiley

Also, I recognize Golden Slumbers from the Beatles song--it's cool to learn it came from an older poem!
28  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: My springtime wedding and diy wedding dress! on: July 03, 2011 06:24:36 PM
Oh wow!

First of all, congratulations on the marriage and on the wedding--everything turned out so beautifully! You really should consider going into fashion Cheesy

And secondly, this is extra-cool for me because I'm pretty sure this is the same place I got married in June 2008 (Chapel Dulcinea, right?) We have a lot of similar pics, including the awkward-face ones :p  And just out of curiosity, was your officiant named Connie? Even she looks exactly like our officiant :p

Congrats again!
