71  House Warming Giftie in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by envirocraft on: August 25, 2009 01:29:05 PM
So, my boyfriend just bought himself a brand new house.  Well, it's not brand new, it's from 1930!  Anywhoo... I thought "what would a crafty eco-nut girlfriend do as a house warming gift?"

Well here's what I came up with:

This is part of my plan.  I'm going to pick up a bottle of wine (not the mostly consumed one shown here!) and put it in the wine tote found here: http://www.sewingrepublic.com/projectPdf/wine_tote.pdf.  And the wine glasses are also part of the gift. I picked them up at a thrift store for 49 cents a piece!! They're like new, they had curly ribbon wrapped around them, and were clearly wedding favors earlier in their lives.

The other part of my plan is a basket of home made cleaners shown here:

Because he's a man, this is the kind of stuff he won't think about buying first!  I'm going to get a kitchen sized garbage can to put it all in.

The package consists of 100% post consumer recycled paper towels and toilet paper.  There's also a box of kleenex.

I made the cleaners myself from these websites:
http://down---to---earth.blogspot.com/2007/08/various-recipes-for-green-cleaning.html
http://www.eartheasy.com/live_nontoxic_solutions.htm
http://www.craftbits.com/viewProject.do?projectID=709&print=

The window cleaner and creamy scrubber are from the first one.
The multi-purpose cleaner is from the second one.
The deodorizer is from the last one.

I made the labels myself which include ingredients, directions and why they rock. Smiley

Additionally I made some swiffer pads out of terry.  They're hiding behind the bottle of cleaner on the right. He's going to love it. He really likes when I make him stuff. Smiley

Hope you enjoy!

72  Buttercup bag - first attempt in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by envirocraft on: April 26, 2009 07:45:02 PM
This is my first attempt at the buttercup bag.  I really like it.  This was my practice bag.  I intend to make my sister one like this for Christmas.

the inside.  I was lazy.  There's no pocket, but I did put in a zipper...it was the only one I had that was the right size.

I'm not too sure what I"m going to do with it yet.  It's not really good enough to give away, and I don't really need another purse... Sad

73  PixelJunk Monster's itouch cozy in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by envirocraft on: April 26, 2009 07:26:23 PM
Okay, so I got the great idea to make a gift for my boyfriend, but the next gift giving occasion isn't really until christmas Tongue Or maybe our anniversary, which is about a month earlier.  Either way, I was excited to make this.

I drew out a little scene from one of our favorite PS3 games Monsters, by PixelJunk then embroidered it.

Then I added a little flappy to it:

The reason it doesn't have a button or something on it is because the other side is screen cleaning material:

I was very excited to get to use the fancy stitches on my machine...I usually don't ever have occasion for that!

Even though it doesn't have any type of fastener, there is a belt loop, and the flap tucks into it:

And the money shot...with my cell phone in it because I don't have a itouch!

The other side of the inside is super soft light green material.  I made it so that there are no seams or anything on the inside to scratch. (how thoughtful of me, right? Tongue)

He's going to freak.  He loves when I make him stuff, and he will love that it's Monsters!

Hope you all like it too!  C & C encouraged!

74  Fabric Coffee Sleeves in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by envirocraft on: April 10, 2009 06:00:39 PM
So I've been going a bit nuts making these!!  I'm not sure what I plan to do with all of them, but I love them.

I made them by throwing together a whole bunch of ideas of the ones posted here and elsewhere.

I didn't have coffee cups to put them on, but Lush pots work!! lol  And I apologize for the poor picture quality, my mom has my camera in Mexico!

Let me know what you think!

75  Tea Cozies!!! in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by envirocraft on: April 10, 2009 05:55:20 PM
So I'm thinking about Christmas presents already because I want to make everything myself.  I want to make tea sets, and so here are some cozies I've started.

I'm not sure which design I like better.  They're both cute.

This first one I made following this tutorial: http://www.craftandfabriclinks.com/tea_cozy/tea_cozy_pattern.html
I like the huge bow.

This one is like one my boyfriend's family has.  I followed the previous pattern, except made it 4" longer, and didn't sew the casing for the ribbon, then made a "scrunchie" and sewed it on.  (it's a bit less work, but not much!)

I apologize for the poor picture quality, I had to take them with my laptop because my mom has my camera in Mexico right now!!

Let me know what you think, and which you like better!

76  CD Coasters in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by envirocraft on: March 07, 2009 09:18:29 PM
I finally found something to do with all the CDs I had kicking around.

I used my old Fantastic Flowers thing (aka flower die cut machine for kids) to cut a whole bunch of paper flowers from my scrapbooking scraps.  Then I modge-podged them to cds, covered the back with paper, and used hot glue to add the ribbons and the buttons for some flair.

Thanks for looking!

77  What do you do when someone gives you a giant tee? in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by envirocraft on: March 07, 2009 06:51:25 PM
Make yoga pants of course!!

I followed this tutorial, loosely.  It seems I just can't follow tuts.  I start off good and then decide that I screwed it up and need to modify.  lol

Because i'm big thighed, I added some navy jersey material to the sides, and then used it as the waistband too.  P.S. I hated doing the waistband!!

http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/oversized_t_shirt_to_comfy_yoga_pants

Here's what I started with.  A men's Large tee shirt that a friend of mine gave me. I apologize for the poor photo quality.

This shows the stuff on the shirt, it's a little different as it wraps around the side of the body.

Here's a closer look at the detail

And here's a shot of me modeling them.  This one kinda shows how the stuff on the shirt wraps around the inside of the one leg!

Thanks for looking.  I'd love to hear your feed back!

78  Business Time - Flight of The Conchords in CHALLENGE 36 ENTRIES by envirocraft on: March 02, 2009 10:21:45 AM
This was the very first song I thought about when I read this month's challenge.  It's sooo funny, so I made a gift for my best friend for her birthday.

THE BUSINESS TIME BAG

First the purse itself. I followed this bag pattern, except for the bottom, I just sewed the two sides together instead of making it round.  I didn't take any during pictures because those of you that actually can sew would be appalled! Tongue

The Outside:

I made it following this tutorial: http://lulalouise.blogspot.com/2008/01/reversible-shoulder-bag-tutorial.html The outside is meant to be functional and nice, I chose a purple-ish blue light cord material

The Inside: Team building shirt from your old work!

I made this from an old tee shirt that I got from volunteering.  I don't sew much, but I should know better than to try to sew stretchy jersey to non-stretch cord.  LOL There might have been a lot of cursing, especially trying to get the tee shirt pattern to line up!

The contents of the bag was stuff mentioned in the song:

Toothbrush and toothpaste (it's part of the foreplay)
Lush's Business time massage bar (even better foreplay)
A Cd with the song and erotic lounge music (incase you trip over your pants/shoes while taking them off and need to turn it into a sexy dance)
Business socks (you know that when I"m down to just my socks it's business time!)

And a lavender scented flax eye pillow for when business hours are over...to help fall asleep

There you have it! I'd love to hear what you think! (my friend loved it!)
