1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Seagreen Socks on: July 30, 2009 02:57:54 PM
These are lovely - I love the pattern and that green is awesome  Smiley
I NEED to start knitting socks - so much nicer than bought ones!
2  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / I'm with the band...the marching band! 4th July Costume on: July 29, 2009 01:29:37 PM
For some reason, about a week and a half before the Americana -themed Skin Two North Ball, I decided that it would be a great idea to make a costume - a majorette costume no less!
I'll try and upload my original sketch for the costume at some point and a picture of the back so you can see the beautiful red ribbon lacing but for now here are some photos:

This is me in a giant yellow stiletto! I made the corset, the shoulder epulet and my baton. Bought the boots, skirt and shorts.

This is me and my friend Liz - military style - and you can just about see the red bow of the lacing poking out the bottom...and the weird flat white boots in all their glory. I was going to add some fringing or pom-poms to them but didn't have time.

It didn't go as smoothly as I planned: my sewing machine broke down and I has to stitch the bias binding to the top and bottom of the corset by hand (OW! Sore fingers!), didn't get time to add all the cord and button detail to the front and I ended up hat-less because there was nothing that seemed to be quite right. But as you can see from my inane grin I was pretty happy with how it turned out, my corset fit and my feet were comfy all night!

Let me know what you think xxx K

4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: Stick this on your head and wear it! Pearly, Satin-y Hat thing! on: June 09, 2009 11:09:27 AM
Hey - thanks for the nice comments!  Grin
I would have loved to add a veil but didn't have time to source the material - definitely an option, think I might try larger on the 'leaves' too, perhaps ones with buttons...oh dear - got me started now...
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Stick this on your head and wear it! Pearly, Satin-y Hat thing! on: June 08, 2009 02:09:05 PM
For a recent burlesque swap I decided to attempt my first ever head piece thing.
My swap partner said she was a black, red and pearls type gal so I went with it!
I used plastic mesh to make the base, cut and sewed it into shape. I then wrapped the whole thing in black satin-y material, made the mesh 'leaves' and sewed it all together adding a cluster of 'pearls', like little berries, as the finishing touch. There is a clear plastic comb firmly attached underneath and I have to admit to a small amount of swanning about the flat in this to 'test' that it would stay put when it's on  Roll Eyes

Some in progress piccies:

Just finished:

For a better view of the 'leaves':

Unfortunately I've got no piccies of this perched on the old noggin as I had to rush off to send it but I loved it so much I'm now in the process of making myself one! What do you think? Any questions/crits? All welcome  Smiley
