11  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: Chickadee Potholders (PIC FAT) on: January 12, 2010 08:50:16 AM
I was curious...I've seen lots of pot holders, but they were all made with cotton yarn.  I'm assuming so they wouldn't melt due to very hot pots, pans, cassarole dishes, ect...

Would acrylic be okay to use for this pattern if the pot holders are meant to be functional?  I want to make these for my mom cuz she loves stuff like this, but I was wondering about the acrylic yarn and if it would be safe...don't want Mom burning herself!

These are awesome btw...I love the color combinations!

I free handed them.  I've made so many hats, that I've learned to eye my work and adjust as I go along.  I've  had to start over a few times before, but it's a learning experience each time.  It's just a basic beanie with earflaps and poms added to it.  Very simple.
13  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Earflap hats! on: January 09, 2010 07:14:31 AM
I had a co-worker make a couple of requests from me.  All she said was use blue, purple, black...go!  She said the same thing for the rainbow hat...I like having room to do whatever I want.  So with the black, purple, and blue hat, I put popcorn stitches where the blue stripes were and made the pom poms all multi colored...then the rainbow hat...i just couldn't think of anything super fabulous...so I think it came out a little generic...but she still liked them, so the purpose was served...any comments welcome!

What stitch is that?  I love the color!  And yes, I have to agree that hats are addicting...I don't even know how many hats I've made over the last year...50-75 I'm guessing...there's so many things you can do with them...I just love it...Plus it's instant gratification in most patterns...and I have absolutely no patience.  Great job!
15  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: Star Slouchy Hat *Pattern Included* on: January 05, 2010 10:14:20 AM
I would LOVE to make this for my sister (obsessed w/ stars) but I'm a little confused about how many sts you should have at the end of each round when making the star.  I attempted this yesterday and got a bit lost.  I don't think I'm supposed to join rounds when making the star, so I didn't.  Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Ok here is my attempt to explain:

work in rounds don't join

With Green ch 1 or use magic circle
Rnd 1: Work 5 sc in first ch
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around (10) 1 ss
Rnd 3: *(1 sc, ch 1, 1 sc)(work what is in parenthesis in same stitch) ss 1* rep from * to * around (16)
Rnd 4: *(1 sc, ch 1, 1 sc)(work what is in parenthesis in same stitch) ss 3* rep from * to * around (24)
Rnd 5: *(1 sc, ch 1, 1 sc)(work what is in parenthesis in same stitch) ss 5* rep from * to * around, 1 ss (32)
FO
With Dark Brown ss1 to the top of any point on the star
Rnd 6: *1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 trc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 ss* * rep from * to * around,
Join with 1 ss
on this round make sure the slip stitches end up on the points and the 1 trc ends up in the very middle in between each arm.

I hope this helps

Thanks so much...this is very helpful!  I'll be posting pictures as soon as I can!  Thanks again!
16  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: Ribbed Ear Flap Hat w/ Pom Poms! on: December 14, 2009 07:59:53 AM
Thanks so much for creating this wonderful hat and sharing with everyone here!  I've made so many of these now in a million different colors for many of my loved ones...it is a very popular hat!  And because of you, I've kept my family and friends warm during these very cold winter days/nights here in northwest Arkansas!  This is a lovely hat, thanks again!

Oh, and I'm curious...does anyone have any tips on how to keep your poms intact...?  I've made a few of these for young children and they rip those poms apart!  Would super glue help at the knot in the middle maybe??  Not sure...thanks for the help!

Very awesome mittens I might say.  Do you think I could use a smaller hook to obtain a smaller size...like for my six year old kid?  Or less decreases?  Not quite sure what the proper protocol would be for this pattern...
