Sorry for not responding sooner. i've been MIA from the internet in general lately. I didn't end up naming the monkey, but I suppose if I did it would be something old and slightly odd for a monkey. Thank you again for the sweet comments. The pattern wasn't really difficult so much as time consuming. Try it; you might like it.
Thank you for the sweet comments! I was a little shocked with her response too, but I think someday it will grow on her. This was the first sizable project that I ever finished. I've made little dishcloths and granny squares, but never a whole toy. I even started knitting a sweater 4 years ago that is still left undone in storage. I think I'm going to make another monkey for the brother just for the fun of it. It should be easier since I've already been through the pattern once. If anyone's interested, I got the pattern at Joann's for $4.50, but I found it here on amazon for the same price plus shipping. http://www.amazon.com/Crocheted-Sock-Monkeys-Leisure-Arts/dp/B000MWBXHK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1230575575&sr=8-2
Thankyou very much! Unfortunately, (and shockingly) the little girl I made the monkey for didn't like him! Her first words after seeing him were exactly "I don't like it." I couldn't believe it! But her brother LOVES it and requested one in blue. Hopefully his goes a little quicker.
