1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / shape of dress? on: May 07, 2010 07:52:54 PM
I'm really quite fond of these dresses, but I, as many crafters before me, cannot afford the price tag and am interested in sewing something similar.

My questions:
What shape is the second dress in? Is there a name? Frock shape, perhaps?
Is the first dress constructed of a yoke attached to a slightly angled-out rectangle with sleeves that are somewhat attached?
2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / phillip lim's pleated dress? on: June 26, 2009 10:07:27 AM
Keira Knightley wore this dress some months ago to a Letterman interview. It looks like a simple sheath dress, but how are the pleats created?

Here is a picture of Knightley wearing it:

Appears to have the same pleats:

The newspaper item is a box.. I used this glue-water substance and newspaper and what was a box of tea.
And it's hard to see, but there is a pair of origami earrings hanging off the box -- I folded small paper butterflies that became earrings.

Seriously -- my mom couldn't believe that someone handmade the bag. And the green was lovely; it is my favorite color, and the book was a clever idea!

The quotes were just a few lovely excerpts from poems by T. S. Eliot, namely "Portrait of a Lady," "The Waste Land," and "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock."

OK, I'm so sorry for not communication too well these past few weeks! I have had crazy rehearsal for the upcoming school production, and I didn't have much time to do much anything at all.

I received Amber's package (ABarrios), and it is lovely! I am already starting to use the tote bag to carry things around.

I am SO close to being finished. I'm just waiting for my friend to give me a few materials and I'll get going on my last item. Smiley

I'm done with two parts of my swap. I should be done with the third and the possible fourth part rather soon..

Whoo. I'm conceptualizing something I've never tried before. Let's see how it goes..
I think my items can be comfortably done by the send-out date or earlier, even.

My side of the swap is going well! I have some pretty interesting ideas, if I do say so myself. Smiley I'm getting a good start on it, but school has been so stressful lately. I will definitely have like three items done by the 27th though.

My swap partner is so different from me, but I think that will make it rather interesting. Smiley
