1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / old fashioned kinda gal on: June 15, 2005 06:07:14 PM
I have had this project simmering in the back of my mind for a while and last weekend it finally made it to a completed project. The inspiration was the beautiful white tea gowns ladies wore in the 1910's however I wanted to make something I could wear anytime enter vogue pattern

http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/voguepatterns/shop.cgi?s.item.V7743=x&TI=20011&page=4

It wasn't exactley what I wanted so I did some light pattern drafting and came up with this

front view (don't mind the wonkiness I think it's the angle)

back view (sorry about the wrinkles linen will do what linen wants)

so I used short pieces of fabric from my stash that had been languishing for a while and all of the lace came from my favorite thrift store. All in all I think it cost about $16 to make, by the way I really recommend this pattern it goes together really well!
thanks for looking Wink

Well I finally finished all 8 of my squares for the tsunami quilt project and thought I would post my embroidered square here. It took the longest to make and I am fairly pleased with it. I pretty much just freeformed the whole thing. Oh and its still not too late if you want to contribute a square it can be mailed by the 15th of February. Here is the link, I think it has already been posted on some boards in crafster but I think everyone should know about it!

6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / not your grammy's pincushion on: January 21, 2005 05:29:13 PM
Ok so I don't know if anyone is wierd like me and makes/collecs unusual pincushions. Anywho I thought a swap where everyone made one or two pincushions using nontraditional shapes/ideas would be cool. I mean I like tomato and strawberry pincushions just fine but sometimes you want to stick your pins in something a little more interesting! ya know?

By unusual I'm thinking sushi, globes, flowers, monsters, dress forms, other food items, anything goes.....  in case anyone is wondering there isn't anything too technical involved, you can stuff pincushions with fine sand, sawdust, cotton batting, polyfill, etc...

so let me know if you're interested and I'll get it started
7  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / japanese woodblock mural on: January 14, 2005 03:31:47 PM
So, ok this project is not 100% finished but I am just dying to post it. My little sis is having her room redone and I recently started the first of two murals I am doing in her room. She just turned 13  so I thought something slightly more sophisticated was called for. The image is based on a portion of a japanese woodblock print by Hokusai. I painted it using a combination of satin latex for the underpainting and artist's acrylics for the detail. I freehanded the entire image no projector was used, anyway I hope you likey
