1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Fabric help desperately needed! on: April 13, 2009 10:36:54 AM
I'm trying to replicate this dress: http://sixteencandlesprom.com/jovani-40628.html with this pattern: http://www.voguepatterns.com/item/V7521.htm.  I searched all over the internet for a silk paisley pattern that I liked, and I actually found the exact one here: http://www.fashionfabricsclub.com/catalog_itemdetail.aspx?ItmID=ZZ321.  I ordered it last week, but today I got an email saying that it was sold out and that my order's been canceled. Sad  Does anyone know a good place to look?  I'm desperate to find a simple, playful paisley like the one I tried to order.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks! Smiley

Thanks so much!  I'm getting help with the dress, so I'll ask her opinion about the dyeing.  I really liked www.dharmatrading.com though, it was really helpful and the prices weren't too high. Smiley  I can't wait to get started!

Ah! I meant black and red, sorry.  Obviously it would be impossible for it to be red and white.

The site says it's 100% silk-- will that work then?

I'm trying to find a paisley fabric for my prom dress that doesn't look like it should belong as curtains.  I found (I think) the exact one that was used in the dress I'm trying to recreate, but it's not dyed.  It's black and white, and I want it to be red and white.  (http://www.fashionfabricsclub.com/catalog_itemdetail.aspx?ItmID=ZZ321)

Does anyone know anything about dyeing charmeuse?

5  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Where do you buy fabric online? on: March 29, 2009 03:23:56 PM
So I went through this entire thread and looked at just about all of the sites, and I think I found one fabric that's close to what I'm looking for.  I'm looking for a red and black paisley print in a dress fabric like charmeuse.  Any suggestions as to where I should look? Thanks!
6  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Help! I can't find red paisley dress fabric! on: March 29, 2009 12:15:33 PM
I'm looking for a red and black paisley print in a fabric suitable for a formal dress.  Something like silk or charmeuse.  I've called a few local places that can't find anything and a few Joann's that were pretty unwilling to help, so I've resorted to looking online, and am having a lot of difficulty.  I've found really juvenile fabrics, cottons, and red and white prints, but nothing that I'm looking for.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I should look?  Online or otherwise?  I'm in the Boston area, but have no problem asking to have something shipped if it's what I need.  Thanks! Smiley
7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Jovani 2009 Prom Dress 40628 on: January 29, 2009 04:07:42 PM
I'm looking to somehow recreate this dress (http://www.tjformal.com/Products/708/32644/Jovani/Jovani-2009-Prom-Dress-40628) minus the beading and with a slit that doesn't run as high.  I've done some sewing myself, but am nervous to try to do something as adventurous as this for my boyfriend's prom.  I was wondering if anyone had any advice on where to start/ a pattern or knew of any seamstresses who could help/ recreate it for me?  I want a really unique dress without paying $500.  Thanks! Smiley
