1  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / My peacockalicious costume on: November 04, 2007 11:27:36 AM
So I've had this dress that got kinda messed up at the dry cleaner's and I was looking for something that I could do with it.  I was originally leaning towards Rainbow Brite but ultimately decided that Peacocks are where it's at.  I did some research and bought 150 peacock feathers online at ostrich.com, then attacked them with my hot glue gun until they made a tail piece and some fine feathery accessories.  Here are the results:

My tailfeathers

This is a better pic of the actual color of the feathers, they're amazing!

A view with the earrings and bracelet that I made

Eye makeup with fabulous feathery lashes

A more bar-friendly tailpiece that I made with leftover feathers so as to not poke out the eyes of everyone around me.

So that's how I spent my halloween, it was a good time and now I have peacock feather wall decorations.  It's a win-win!
2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / The Great Gonzo on: May 29, 2007 04:16:23 PM
So I just finished the second round of the Jim Henson appreciation swap and I embroidered this on a purse for my swap partner:

It has Gonzo being shot from a cannon while Camilla looks on.  I do love the muppets and had a really great time working on this piece.

Like a moron, I forgot to take pictures before I sent and so my partner was nice enough to post pictures when she got her package.
3  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Mini Pies!! on: November 12, 2005 09:34:16 PM
So I was busily procrastinating today and decided that I really needed to make some miniature pies in order to put off writing the two papers that I have due next week.  I think that they turned out pretty well...

Mini pie!

Slightly goopy mini pie

I used a normal pie crust recipe and mini muffin tins.  All I had for filling was a can of cherry pie filling, in the future I might try to make mini pecan pies cause they are my favorite!

OK, if everyone could post pictures of their clothing item before they begin embellishing, that would be fantastic... That way we can see all of the fantastic things that people come up with!

I've heard that some of you have already received your fabulously random CDs... Please post here when you do!
6  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Help me with my halloween costume... pretty please? (image heavy) on: October 21, 2005 04:42:14 PM
OK, so it all started when my mom bought me these shoes:

They're fantastic, right?  Although not very practical.  I had to come up with a haloween costume to go with them, because I couldn't just wear them out to dinner with friends (OK, so I did but that's not exactly the point, now is it?)

So after long hard minutes of thinking, I decided that I would dress up as a space hooker for haloween... my mom was less than impressed but what does she expect buying me light up stripper shoes?  I already had a silver halter top and I'm working on making a skirt.

I made these earrings to wear:

And tonight I did a test run of the makeup...

So what do you think... does the assymetry look wierd?  Should there be less black liner?  More?

And finally, most importantly, what should I do with my hair???  I have some silver glitter hairspray that will make any style into a sparkly helmet that won't go anywhere but I can't think of any kind of futuristic styles.  I'm thinking of getting some silver pipe cleaners and making sproing-ey things to attach to whatever style I end up with but I can't figure out what I'm going to do.  Does anyone have any suggestions??  I know that you fabulously crafty folks won't let me down!

Date to send item by: November 16

Non-U.S. participants allowed? Sure.

Organizer is aware of current list of "suspended traders" list and will not allow those members to participate: of course

Details of swap: OK, the first round was fantastic so I've been thinking that we need to have a round 2, here's what you do:

1)Hit the "shuffle" or "random" command in your iTunes or other music player.

2) Burn as many songs as you can fit onto a CD. . .NO MATTER WHAT.  NO SKIPPING SONGS *onto TWO cds* (the same playlist please).  And I repeat, you are not allowed to skip songs under any circumstances.

3)Decorate a nice cover for both of the CDs and ship it off to your assigned partners.

I got so much fantastic music during the first round of this swap, Yes a Ricky Martin song did make it on to my playlist (is it less horrible because it's in Spanish?) But I also learned about some fantastic music that I never would have found otherwise.  If you would like to join this swap, please pm me and also post in this thread so that you can keep updated.  Post a haiku or a picture of your big toe, just so long as you have something to keep you up to date on the status of this swap.

8  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / iTunes shuffle part 2?? on: October 13, 2005 11:58:24 AM
I've been thinking about organizing a second round of the super popular iTunes shuffle swap: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=38662.0 since the first one was so fantastic... are there people that would be interested in signing up? I had a blast with the first round and ended up with tons of new music.  If there's enough interest, I would probably start signups this weekend and run until the end of the month.  The send out would be in mid-November since all you really have to do is create and burn a random playlist.  Daria (the organizer of the first round) also recommended a limit on the number of participants since the first one got so swamped so I would probably limit it to 30 just to keep it from being too overwhelming.  So what do you think?  Another swap of random (and potentially embarrasing) music?

Date to return your customized clothing by: 11/30

list and will not allow those members to participate: YES

Organizer meets the 4 conditions for swapping and will make sure that every participant meets these conditions: YES

Details of swap:

OK, so I have seen some craftsters do some seriously amazing things to customize clothing on these boards and I think that it's time to do some swapping of these embellished clothing items.  So here's the idea:  Everyone who signs up will pick a piece of clothing to send to their partner to have embellished: it could be jeans, a skirt, a denim jacket, a t-shirt, whatever tickles your fancy.  After everyone receives the clothing that they will be customizing, I'm thinking 4 weeks before the send-back date.  There are loads of options for customization: embroidery, fabric paint, patches, applique... any other ideas?
...

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
Name of swap
Craftster username
Email address
Your real name
Mailing address
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside of the US?

What kind of clothing will you be sending?
What embellishment techniques would you like to receive?
What embellishment techniques would you NOT like to receive?

QUICK!  in 30 seconds or less, describe your style and any themes or colors that you would LOVE to have permanantly affixed to the clothing article of your choice:

Are there any specific themes or styles that you would HATE to receive?
Are there any specific areas that you would NOT like to be embellished (words across the tush, etc.)?

What sort of embellishing do you plan on doing?

These are all the questions I can think of, does anyone have any additions??  In my experience, the best and happiest ending swaps are the ones where partners communicate about what they want and what they would really like to receive so please TALK to one another!  Also, I'm pretty flexible on these dates so if you all have suggestions about different dates, let me know.  This is my first time organizing a swap so I'm probably going to have several pm check-in points along the way to help minimize on the flaking.  Edit to add a new request:  All craftsters who sign up for this swap MUST post in this thread as that will keep them updated on the status of this swap.    Thank you!

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO ORGANIZER VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE.

10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / super shiny star chandelier earrings on: September 24, 2005 09:52:20 AM
Inspired by my love of stars and chandelier earrings, I decided to attempt some of my own.  I ended up being really happy with how they turned out, especially since I love really big earrings but my ears don't always love really heavy earrings, so these are a happy combination for me.

Many hours and jumprings later, here they are:
