preg_replace('/(.{49})/', '$1 ', 'OOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooWeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooo')

It's bigger on the inside!

Ever been shocked at how much swag you can fit in a small $4.95 flat rate box? Here's your chance to do it with a Dr. Who theme. You are required to send one small, thoughtfully crafted item (think along the lines of a OTT swap) that will fit into a small flat rate box. Fill the rest of the space with Dr. Who themed extras, crafted or not! Some ideas for extras could be fabric with bow-ties, fez stickers, coupons for fish fingers, yarn to make your own gigantic scarf with, the list goes on and on.

From the USPS website:

Priority Mail Small Flat Rate Box    $5.20    8-5/8" x 5-3/8" x 1-5/8"

The Priority Mail Small Flat Rate Box has a retail shipping price of $5.20 one price, regardless of weight, up to 70 lbs. for U.S. addresses. The international price, for up to 4 lbs., is just $11.95 to Canada or Mexico and $13.95 to all other countries, with savings of 5 percent for customers who ship online.

4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Dr. Who themed fill-a-box swap? on: July 04, 2011 09:15:47 AM

My Dr. Who themed hoopla went over really well, so I thought I'd feel out a Dr. Who themed fill-a-box. Swap requirements would be one small crafted item in a Doctor Who theme, and then whatever purchased or stashed items you'd like along Dr. Who lines. Examples could include bow tie stickers, postcards from exotic locations, star patterned fabric, etc. etc. Crafters can craft more, but aren't required to. I would assume the basic size would be the $4.95 flat rate box -- it keeps the swap small and fun, and makes sure that crafted items are appropriately teeny.

I'll probably start this in a couple of weeks, once sign-ups end for the other swap I'm organizing, depending on interest.
5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Three partner swap? on: July 01, 2011 08:43:13 AM
I'm organizing the Out of Your Element Swap. Either I didn't give the sign-ups enough time, or the theme isn't right for summer -- either way, it's a week until sign ups end and I only have three participants: Me, the co-organizer, and a first-time swapper. I'm not trolling for more participants, advice on what to do here would be much appreciated!

Should I hope for more partners/last minute signups, just do a round robin with 3 partners, extend the sign-ups, or give up and withdraw the swap altogether (is that even possible?)?  Huh

Really not sure what to do here, any advice would help!

Details of swap:

Do you feel like you're stuck crafting the same six things for yourself, friends and family? Getting into a crafting rut? Want to find something new, fun, and exciting to craft, or a new theme to put your crafting skills to good use?

This is the swap for you!

This is a 5 point swap, requiring at least one medium item.

How it works:
Below is a list of 10 themes. Pick your top 3 preferred themes you'd like to *recieve* crafts from.

Then, list all the themes you aren't familiar with, have never crafted for, or have always wanted to craft, just not for yourself.

Example: Fantasy lover who's always wanted to knit baby stuff, but has no baby to knit for.
OR
Video game geek who really wants to make some upcycled/green items.
OR
Mom with some time on her hands and wants to try steampunk jewelry making.

The idea is to get you out of your crafting comfort zone, and put your talents to the test!

THEME CHOICES:
1. Video Games
2. Fantasy
3. Baby/Kids
4. Kitchy/Retro
5. Creepy
6. Kawaii
7. Green/Upcycled
8. Steampunk
9. Sci-Fi
10. Country

THIS SWAP RELIES HEAVILY ON PARTNER-TO-PARTNER COMMUNICATION! It will also probably require some research into your partners themes.

Because your partner is crafting for an unfamiliar theme, a wist or equivalent is required. Please touch base with your partner about relevant measurements, sizes, etc. (If you have a toddler and don't want to recieve newborn sized items, for instance!)

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
Name of swap:

9  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Completed Projects / Food color dyed wool roving! on: March 01, 2011 05:07:08 PM
I've got food coloring, I've got a microwave, I've got 4 ounces of undyed wool! Not anymore!

This skein reminds me of gummy frogs, with the bright colors and the white patches...

My attempt at a "goth" dye -- turns out black food coloring is made with green and purple! Who knew? Smiley
